Singer Gwyneth Herbert has proved herself an insightful commentator on the recordings of fellow vocalists on Jazz Library, but in this week's programme she shares her enthusiasm for the pianist Brad Mehldau, who is one of the most challenging and innovative of contemporary jazz players. With a repertoire ranging from Broadway songs to the works of contemporary rock players, his music seldom stands still. He is a romantic player in the grand tradition of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, but also a fearless experimenter with time, and musical structure. Gwyneth Herbert joins Alyn Shipton to pick Mehldau's finest recordings, as a soloist, with his trio and with the bands of Lee Konitz and Charles Lloyd. Brad Mehldau performs at the 2010 London Jazz Festival.

Barefoot Reel At 41, married, with two kids, Willy Porter is firmly entrenched in middle-age dad-dom and looking to cut back on the road work. But that's more of a change of direction than a step back.

Porter has a new album, his seventh, called 'How to Rob a Bank' and is looking to spend more time in his studio. He also has his own independent label, Weasel Records, and recently added a second artist, folkie Natalia Zukerman. Given Weasel's small size, Porter says he's looking at the label as a co-op for talented people who are motivated enough to handle a lot of the nuts and bolts of a recording career themselves. 'How to Rob a Bank' is an interesting departure for the veteran singer-songwriter. The title track is a topical tune cobbled from recent headlines.

The immediate inspiration is a GM employee who lost his job and tried to rob a bank but was so polite about it that he waited in line for a teller. 'Bank' is Porter at the top of his game, working off his creative debt to Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. The album also makes some off-center musical choices.

Label mate Zukerman lends her support with Dobro and lap steel, but so does the eclectic women's folk rock quartet Raining Jane, which includes sitar and cajon. 'I don't want to make the same record twice, so I thought they added some needed estrogen,' Porter says of Raining Jane. Other notable tracks include 'Lemon Tree,' which taps into some Beach Boys-style falsetto, and 'I Didn't Bring It Up,' co-written with Paul Cebar. With more than a decade of married life to draw on, Porter tackled the conversational navigation skills that evolve during a lengthy relationship.

Nearly 20 years into his recording career, Porter has done the major label thing and the independent label thing. He's toured with and gained musical admirers as diverse as Tori Amos, Ian Anderson and James McMurtry.

He likes to think he has gained some experience but kept the beginner's open mind. 'I still chase my tail like everybody else,' he says, 'but I hope I'm writing with a perspective that's gotten wider.' Somebody Loves You 2. Singing Man 3. Resting Place 4.

Farewell Indiana native Austin Lucas is the latest in a long line of punks-gone-country (Greg Graffin, Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan, Ben Nichols, etc.), in what is an ever-increasing trend. But where his peers tend to lean more towards the folk-end of the country spectrum, Lucas adopts the high and lonesome falsetto of old-time hillbilly and bluegrass, setting him apart, and arguably above, his punk brethren. But whereas his punk peers turn to country and folk because their ears are beginning to bleed, Lucas' destiny was always going to be a combination of the genres, helped along by his musical pedigree.

Raised in a musical household, Lucas' father Bob was busy working with Alison Krauss, whilst Austin was performing in the Indiana University Choir. Lucas fell into the punk crowd and wound up playing bass for grind band Twenty Third Chapter, providing vocals for crust band Rune, and taking on the role of vocalist/guitarist for the Czech prog-punk outfit, The K10 Prospect.

All this background information helps put Lucas' third solo full-length into context. The first line on the lead and title track is Lucas' battlecry; 'Easy there old man or I'll drop you where you stand.' It's an opening line that stamps the singers' intentions; if you were settling in for another middle-of-the-road alt.country experience, best re-adjust that expectation as Lucas will tell you the way it is, whether you want to hear it or not.

'Somebody Loves You' is scathing in it's criticism of a religious leader who he himself admired as a young man. But Lucas' willingness to then turn the camera on himself as he says that those who love him are fools for believing his lies. 'Go West' is more typical in theme, if not structure. Granted, lost love has explored in country music time and time again, but rarely has it felt so genuine. 'Go west Emily, grab your boots and find yourself somewhere / I'll find another lover in the east' 'Shoulders' uses a combination of religious and familial imagery in it's description of another country staple; sin and redemption.

Joined by his father, sister Chloe Manor, Todd Beene (Lucero) and Chris Westhoff (Our Lady of Bells/Bone Orchard Revival), Lucas' music is as ethereal as it is grounded in tradition. The melodies here can be complex, but the harmonies are as sweet as those found in the Appalachian mountains.

Lucas' dextrous finger-pickin' defies his punk heritage, as does his sentimentality. It's this constant strle of opposites (simple/complicated, gentle/hardened, critical/introspective, God/The devil) that makes 'Somebody Loves You' such an important album. Not to mention the much needed kick in alt.country's arse. Midnight Hour ( 2:50) 02. Be All That You Can't Be ( 2:57) 03.

Your Plan For Happiness ( 5:05) French indie electronic duo The Penelope(s) have created a distinctly pop sensibility that draws on indie rock from the early '90s with elements of synth-pop and early House. The results, though, will appeal to home listeners as well as the club kids.

Priceless Concrete Echoes is their first domestic release. A mix of shoegazing, New York disco, punk and funk - the album is produced by Black Strobe's Arnaud Rebotini.

Soaring through nostalgic hints of The Cars or New Order (Licked by Love) or Ride (The Heat Goes On), the album is dominated by the instincts of the European rave scene. The bass is slapped, the hi-hats are mixed up front, and The Penelope(s) are not afraid to shine a light on the disco ball. They also aren't afraid to cover the Beastie Boys - all with joyful abandon. Mastiksoul - Run For Cover (Original Mix) 2. Alex Kenji - A Lot Of (Original Mix) 3.

Run Away From Trouble 4:18 In 2009 Frankmusik is that rarest of pop prospects; one that has manufactured his own image and music. Complete Me is an auteur’s album, a break-up record written about one girl. While his contemporaries use one producer for one track, one writer for another and end up with a hotch-potch of borrowed sentiments and a patchwork of production sounds, Vincent Frank wrote and produced these tracks in his bedroom in Croydon.

The album is an electronic love letter, the soundtrack to an eternal summer of adolescent heartache, equal parts light and dark. With a dozen remixes to his name for everyone from avant-garde Brooklyn act Telepathe to The Pet Shop Boys; Frank has also produced two tracks on the forthcoming album by No 1 grime pop star Tinchy Stryder, as well as his debut single 'Better Off As Two' reaching the upper reaches of the charts. Complete Me marks the long-awaited long-playing debut from Frankmusik, aka Vincent Frank--a former BMX rider and student at the London School Of Fashion who packed in both to become a do-it-yourself pop star. Accordingly, this is a pop music several steps away from the current stage school/talent show consensus--still invested with big choruses and billowing synthesisers, but delivered with an oddball charisma and quirky intelligence.

Described by Frank as 'a break-up record written about one girl', Complete Me channels desire, loneliness and melancholy through a kaleidoscope of styles, from pristine pop--see early breakout track 'Confusion Girl', here polished into a grand, strings-laden production redolent of Mika or the Pet Shop Boys--to glitched-up synth-pop ('Done Done', '3 Little Words') and mischievous mash-up ('When You’re Around', which pilfers the harpsichord line from The Stranglers’ 'Golden Brown' and chops it up into stuttering new melodies). The climax, or at least a sense of closure, comes with 'Vacant Heart'--an epic heartbreak number that blows up the emotions of a collapsing relationship into epic widescreen. Dead Romantic Nothing Can Last Forever Under the Moonlight The Ghost Ruins of My Heart The Way Brokenhearted Cold Memory Fields I Loved You When nostalgia meets passion and classical music meets rock, here comes the Dark romantism.

Coming from Mons, Alucard is a quintet founded by the artist Dorian and developing a visual and musical concept called Dark romantism. Their first album is produced by world-class producer John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, HIM, Cradle of Filth.) and illustrated by Alain Descamps, graphical artist for Franco Dragone. The Dark romantism isn’t born by chance and literally transcribe the hidden garden of a romantic author scorched by the wounds of an impossible teenage love. Confronted to the fact that I couldn’t be with her, I started to write and unconsciously, I created a realm where we could be together. - Dorian Inspired by the Hells of Greek mythology, Christian eschatology and tarots, this realm transports us on a spiritual path leading to the flowering of the soul. A graphical and poetical universe pretending to become a piece of “Total Art” of the 21st century through several medias (Internet, music, video, pictures, promotional visuals and concerts).

A piece of “Total Art” characterizes itself through the simultaneous use of several medias and artistic disciplines, and through the symbolic, philosophical or metaphysical meaning it carries. Since its creation, the band tours with concerts from Mons (Royal Theater) to Klub Depo in Riga Latvia, and went in Studios all over Europe (ICP Studios in Brussels / Sound Division Studio in Riga / Redroom Studios in Norway) working with known professionals like Djoum (Indochine, Superbus.) and John Fryer. I loved you is a great song, reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody - John Fryer, Riga, 2007 about the originality and musical quality of that song. In order to push the perfectionism to its limits, each album will provide an original concept and will create its own realm following the previous universes. The end of the first album features a reference to the second one, now in preparation.

Their first LP titled Psychic Chasms will be released on October 13, 2009 and their is a lot of fantastic buzz and excitement with this record.

Neon Indians is actually VEGA’s Alan Palomo’s new project. “Neon Indian delivers equal parts synthetic nostalgia, Dreampop lullabies, and grinding guitar noise to create something eerier than the sum of its parts.

Forged after a hazy winter gathering in Texas, this initial batch of tracks were the result of field recordings, record samples, a collection of bizarre synth sounds. Orbiting around the themes of drug induced heartbreak, weary afternoons, and lost chances, this music provides a lush soundtrack to the deadbeat exploits of teenage ennui.”. The Constant Springs 11. The Turned On Truth (The Truth Is Turned On) It’s to Cornershop’s eternal credit that, rather than attempt to exorcise the ghost of that song (or, to be exact, that remix) by throwing a decade-long sulk and retreating into tuneless unlistenability, they have instead embraced pop melodicism. Even though they must know that their big moment will never return, they’ve turned out some cracking tunes since “Brimful of Asha”, blissfully oblivious to whether the world will be listening. For example, “Lessons Learned from Rocky I to Rocky III”, their swaggering T Rexy jernaut from their 2002 album Handcream for a Generation.

The gloriously titled Judy Sucks a Lemon for Breakfast picks up where Handcream left off. Something’s gone badly wrong with pop in those seven years, and Tjinder Singh and his songwriting partner Ben Ayres (who still holds downa day job as a press officer for Rough Trade Records) know it. Much of Cornershop’s sixth album is concerned with pinpointing what that something is, while simultaneously doing a little to put it right. “Who Fingered Rock’n’Roll” combines a Stonesy riff with psychedelic sitar and soulful backing vocals, and, give or take the 47-second latino disco teaser “Half Brick”, most of side A (this album is broken into two notional halves, like albums used to be) continues in that vein: it might have been subtitled Exile on Jullander Shere. When Primal Scream or The Charlatans do a similar thing, there’s an overpowering stench of death. Against the odds, Cornershop breathe new life into it.

Side B shifts the emphasis to sunshiney fusion pop – typified by “The Constant Springs”, whose title is a reference to the baffling territorial bickering in Althea & Donna’s “Uptown Top Ranking” – barring a pointless but pleasant Southern rock’n’roll rereading of Dylan’s much-covered “The Mighty Quinn”. The closing “The Turned-On Truth”, a 16-minute rock’n’soul marathon, brings us full circle to the Keefmeets- Ravi hybrid where we came in.

Cornershop have done something rather unexpected here. They’ve created a cultural critique you can dance to. 1 Intro 2 VCR 3 Crystalised 4 Islands'' 5 Heart Skips A Beat 6 Fantasy 7 Shelter 8 Basic Space 9 Infinity 10 Night Time 11 Stars The XX, four young, sullen-faced youths dressed in black, have that alluring band-as-a-gang aura about them. They spent their youth at south-west London's Elliott School (fellow alumni: Four Tet, Burial and Hot Chip) obsessively tinkering with instruments in the music room before signing a deal and self-producing their album in their record company's back office. At first glance, you'd expect them to make basement rock'n'roll songs serrated with guitar feedback, but they're more interesting than that.

For starters, they're fronted by a boy/girl combo - Romy Madley Croft (guitar) and Oliver Sim (bass) - whose interplay lends their debut an intimate tension. Along with bandmates Baria Qureshi (keyboards/guitar) and Jamie Smith (programming/samples), Croft and Sim craft languid, sparsely arranged love songs that recall atmospheric 80s acts such as the Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star. Better still, they betray their south London roots: gentle, plaintive melodies are framed by minimal beats that nod to dubstep and R&B.

On paper, it's a mongrel mix. As the languorous swirl of Intro fades in, however, you immediately sense you're listening to something seductively special. When Croft and Sim start singing, on VCR, they come across as being in an advanced state of fatigue. Standout tracks such as Crystalised, with its off-key riff, possess a very modern sense of anxious turmoil, while Shelter mixes spare, dolorous guitar lines with a restless chorus. It's an album to play when you're wallowing in a comedown and slow-paced melancholy offers a strange comfort. There is a lightness of touch at play that gives the XX a sophistication beyond their years.

It probably means that their dream pop will become the ubiquitous dinner party album du jour. But really, their panicky atmospherics are too strange for that. This is uneasy listening to soundtrack the gentle gnashing of teeth. I'll Find Me 2. All I Need 4. Moo La Moo 5. Back To Memphis 7.

Beautiful Regret The highly anticipated fourth album from country rocker Steve Azar, Slide on Over Here, is scheduled for release on Tuesday, August 4. Azar blends passion and energy into the 13-track album filled with all original material.

Slide on Over Here is an album that will satisfy the fans who have been on board from the beginning, and also open up the minds of those unfamiliar with the soulful singer's music. The collection of songs offers a little bit of everything from romantic ballads to his signature rockin' themed melodies, and represents what his music is all about. 'Every note on this record is honest,' notes Azar. 'I think I've learned that you are always having a conversation with your audience. What do you want to say?

What inflections will you use? Everything about that conversation has got to be honest.'

The Delta native became a country music sensation with his 2002 hit singles, 'I Don't Have To Be Me ('Til Monday)' and 'Waitin' On Joe.' He has since created music for movies, narrated a documentary and founded the charitable organization The Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation, which provides aid to disadvantaged, sick and abused children in the Delta and Nashville areas where the singer spends most of his time.

Slide on Over Here once again showcases Azar as a multifaceted talent as a singer, songwriter, performer, producer and musician. With songs like 'I'll Find Me,' 'Startin' Today,' and 'Beautiful Regret,' Azar delivers signature, soulful and bluesy vocals, sure to give the listener chills, and taps into his softer side with the romantic ballads 'Sunshine' and 'Hard Road.' Azar stays true to his Mississippi roots with the jazz-infused 'Sweet Delta Chains' where he takes the listener down to the muddy waters of the Mississippi to point out why there's no place like home. The song goes on to contain a hidden song of the raw and acoustic title track. The album's debut single, 'Moo La Moo,' will ring true to fans of all ages, with his take on being broke long before payday rolls around. The video that features Azar's Hollywood actor friends Gary Valentine (King of Queens) and Paula Trickey (The O.C.), is currently airing on CMT Pure and online at CMT.com and GACtv.com, where it is a 'Top Pick.'

With this latest collection of songs, Azar demonstrates continued growth and maturity as an artist, and presents his most solid work yet. This NY-based quintet melds the deep grooves of blues and R&B with guitar work that recalls JJ Cale and Little Feat. Formed in 2002, the band’s first proper album was a live set released in 2004, followed by five “instant live” albums from their December 2005 tour, which made them a favorite in jam band circles. While he respects the jam band scene, founding member Reid Genauer believes his band’s focus on songcraft puts them in a different league. The Flirts - Calling All Boys 4:23 2.

Good Time Crowd 3:27 11. Leave The Window Open 3:28 Chuck Prophet's genius lies in assimilating a wide variety of genres into his essentially Stonesy architecture ahead of the standard curve. From the seminal '80s alt-country shimmer of Green on Red to his incredibly diverse solo sonic quilt - early Americana rocker/mid-period electronic folkie/latter-day style hybridist - Prophet has engagingly exemplified his surname. On Soap and Water his Yep Roc debut, Prophet continues to defy easy categorization, seamlessly weaving together his myriad roles: chunky rocker 'Freckle Song', sensitive pop balladeer 'Would You Love Me', sonic dabbler 'Doubter Out of Jesus 'All Over You'.

For his considerable talents as performer/arranger/stylist, the ribbon that neatly ties the package is Prophet's lyrical gift, as his beat story-songs pulse with novelistic detail, noirish humor and poetic ambiguity and bristle with pure, guileless rock abandon. Originality is not easy in the derivative rock world but Chuck Prophet has blazed genre trails for over two decades with no signs of running out of inspiration or desire. 01] safety of a back 03:07 02] weight of the day 04:01 03] don't you know 02:30 04] chug along 04:09 05] upon the losing end 02:25 06] lulia 02:26 07] tomorrow's gonna change 02:26 08] livin' daylight 04:57 09] three to the clouds 03:10 10] rumble at the revolution 01:29 11] trainwreck heart 03:43 12] i saw your eyes 03:47 13] everything & anything 05:14 It looks like the boys from San Francisco went and got themselves a little bit of a polish and shine. It may seem out of character for a band that has been labeled as “cowpunk,” but it’s not like Trainwreck Riders have gone all American Idol on us. The formula remains the same.

Lead Singer, Pete Frauenfelder delivers his folksy, Americana vocals while the rhythm section of Steve Kerwin keeps the band moving forward with a furious energy that is the driving force of the band. Add to that a host of flourishes such as accordion, saw and fiddle that give the band a more texture without losing their trademark sound. I’ve been waiting on this release since I saw Trainwreck Riders perform in Austin over two years ago. The stage is their natural element and allows Frauenfelder and Kerwin to feed off the crowd and fire around the stage with reckless abandon.

The production team of Patrick Brown (The Black Lips, Gomez), and mixed with Jon Kaplan (Ash, Granddaddy) has done a great job of capturing that energy on the album, while not losing sight of their evolution as songwriters. “Chug Along” sounds exactly like what you would expect a tune named “Chug Along” to sound like. It ambles along in no particular hurry, keeping you interested at every meandering turn. Fellow HearYa writer, Starkey, thought it sounded like a Modest Mouse tune, but I always come back to Uncle Tupelo when describing their sound. A couple of the other standouts are “Three To The Clouds” with some nice female harmonies, “Trainwreck Heart” that has a twisting, twangy guitar lick and “Upon The Losing End.” Trainwreck Riders’ follow up exceeds two years of expectations and is one my favorite releases so far this year. Next up on their list of things to keep to me happy is a tour through Chicago. Guns 3:54 02.

Untitled 0:30 Heavy Crown is the powerful new disc from Lovehammers, one of Chicago s long-standing leading rock bands. The fifth full length from the band - Marty Casey (vocals), Billy Sawilchik (guitar), Dino Kourelis (bass), Bobby Kourelis (drums) - was produced by heavy-hitting producer Marti Frederickson (Aerosmith Buckcherry, Pink, Faith Hill, Papa Roach) and restores faith that anthemic and heartfelt rock and roll can still thrive.

Set for release July 21, the album includes 11 new and reworked studio tracks including thought-provoking hook-injected airwave contenders and two bonus live versions of classic Lovehammers songs, 'Eyes Can't See' and 'Velvet.' With a back catalog of four albums and three EPs and friendships that date back to their Hickory Hills Little League days, the band s chemistry can t help but be special. It s that chemistry that brought the guys together to create REEP Records, the label that will release Heavy Crown to the masses, with distribution through Fontana/INgrooves. 'Lovehammers has been known to think outside the box and the release of Heavy Crown is no exception,' says bassist Dino. He continues, 'REEP - which stands for Record Executives Everyday People will make decisions regarding singles, videos, touring, etc based on feedback from the real music experts - the fans.' Lovehammers renewed D.I.Y. Attitude comes as the direct result of the band surviving the blessings and curses that came their way when vocalist Marty Casey became a household name, earning the adoration of millions of television viewers as the runner-up on the 2005 reality series 'Rockstar INXS.'

The band was forced to alter their title to put Marty s name in front for their lone Epic Records release. Now the foursome has come full circle by returning to the Lovehammers moniker. 'We have control again and feel comfortable returning to our original name,' says the frontman The new disc was originally planned as a remix album, with the band re-releasing some of its signature songs on its own terms. While in the studio, the album quickly turned into the band s first new studio disc in three years. Heavy Crown kicks off with the band s explosive opening salvo 'Guns.' The track is an ode to the servicemen and women who have given their lives while protecting our country. The chorus - 'Let's pray for all those sweet lives/That die with a gun in their hands/Let's pray for all those sweet lives/That fight for our lives till the end' reemphasizes the band s dedication to honoring these men and women.

Previously, the band created the 'Shoebox Of Love' campaign which encouraged fans to donate care packages to those fighting abroad. To date, over 1000 packages have been sent and the band is working on their 'Shoeboxes @ Home' campaign to support veterans 'Heavy Crown is Lovehammers firing on all cylinders,' says Dino.

Other standout tracks on the album include 'Your Time, My Time,' 'Neverfall,' 'Oh My Baby,' the uplifting title track, the in-your-face 'Black Angel (Not Gonna Be The One)' and 'Driving Blind,' with its soaring chorus and strings performed by the Chicago Junior Symphony Orchestra. Marty hopes that each song finds a home: 'I want Your Time, My Time blasting a summer barbecue.' As for the highly personal 'Oh My Baby,' Marty says that: 'When you write the goodbye letter and watch someone you love walk off into the sunset, you don t really want to mail it. You d rather burn it.'

Bombshell 11. Kruptanite After years of working with bands from Africa to the Middle East and honing his reggae, ska and mento expertise, Nicky has drawn on his musical journeys and philosophies to produce his first ever solo work, Planet Juice. This collection captures songs that have been sitting in the bag for years to new tunes - freshly squeezed.

His new work sees him getting back to his roots; spending more time on the drum kit on top of a kaleidoscope of other instruments including the ukulele, marimba and guitar. With a rich and exciting life so far, this album marks a new phase in Nicky’s musical journey, where the artist stands before the canvas, holding the brush alone. “It strangely took me a while to get started on these songs. I kept finding subconscious excuses to avoid the studio. Eventually I allowed myself to be vulnerable and feel the fear a little. It was the blessing the adventure needed. I now realise the possibilities are endless.” With a passion for culture and people, Nicky has travelled extensively, immersing himself in the music and culture of places such as Ethiopia, Morocco, Jamaica, Europe and his birthplace Malta.

Consequently, the music produced by this peace-lovin’ troubadour is a melting pot of fun, adventure and exotic sounds of the people and places he loves. The live performance still holds sacred for Nicky who is eternally committed to creating a sense of community and unity whenever he plays. It is not uncommon for Nicky to go off on some magical tangent in order to really connect with an audience. Flying by the seat of his pants is something Nicky welcomes.

“I’m always aware of the active energy of a crowd. Believing in the moment and kind of steering that spontaneous beast can result in something really special. Absolute positive vibrations.” Nicky has built a solid reputation in the music industry via many projects including conducting the 30pce Melbourne Ska Orchestra to playing drums on John Butler’s award-winning ‘Sunrise over Sea’ to being the Artistic Producer for the Multicultural Arts Victoria “Visible” project. Over the years he has formed and played with bands purely for the love of the music and the adventures they create. Aspire (4:35) 02. Why Remember Me?

A Friend (3:09) 09. All That I've Got (3:36) 10. No Regrets (4:46) 11. Real Life (2:43) I began the first pieces of a new album in late 2008, a little inspired by the appreciation some had given my previous attempts, but on the whole disheartened that they were nothing special and not memorable enough that people would feel compelled to share it with a friend.

It gave me the feeling that I hadn't tried hard enough, that there must be better songs I can make, longer time I can spend on vocals and recording, and wider sources of influence to widen the range in sound. Perhaps the only worthwhile approach I could have to keep myself moving forward because this album like the others would still be given away for free. For my first stroke on a blank canvas I didn't go the route taken previously to try and formulate song ideas and pick up the guitar, I went to a voice clip of John F. Kennedy in 1961 addressing congress on the importance of space travel. It set up the beginnings of 'The Way Of The Explorer' and allowed me to build an instrumental song up from sentiment and passion rather than a guitar chord.

Re-creating the optimism for the future and the feeling of what it must be like to actually be up there fulfilling the hopes and goals mentioned in JFK's address with music was a challenge, but once done I had a place to progress from; the 50's and 60's. To fully improve my music I had to consider my weakest element, my vocals.

I expanded my original sentiment to re-create emotion with instrumental sections of music in the vein of Pink Floyd, but for the songs that featured vocals I looked to the harmony, the backing and the layer upon layer of voice from The Crickets The 'Chirping Crickets' album and the infamous 'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys for ideas. Stacking the vocal tracks with numerous tones wherever possible would give my voice more depth, and the addition of backing would further increase the melody present, ideas that are present throughout the choruses and verses of this album. 01 AutoErotique - Gladiator 02 AutoErotique - Hey You, Hey Me 03 AutoErotique - Ready Or Not 04 Lykke Li - Little Bit (Autoerotique Bootleg Remix) 05 Chris Cornell - Part Of Me (Autoerotique Remix) Canadian producers Autoerotique apparently released their dance floor banger, 'Gladiator', onto the internet nearly three months ago. Encore (02:51) What a joy it is to witness the becoming of an artist—the singular process of a talent developing, verging on a breakthrough. A maturing voice rising through the jumble that are ghost influences, past collaborations, and the sometimes inconclusive artistic decisions that comes with learning and trying to advance one's career.

Well on her way is French Canadian singer Bet.E (born Elizabeth Provencher), who first garnered attention as one half of Bet.E & Stef, the Montreal, Canada-based Neo Bossa Nova unit she co-led with guitarist/singer Stephane Carreau. Two albums in with Carreau—the last of which was released under the prestigious Verve label—the placid chanteuse split in late 2003 to launch her solo career. She returns with b.coming, a diversified record showcasing her sleek, suave vocal style, but one that unapologetically breaks from the Bossa Nova mold with poppier, contemporary-sounding tracks. With its jazzy, Bruce Hornsby-reminiscent feel, 'Omigod' is one of those tracks where her sensuous phrasing and tone espouse a funkier tangent. Other compositions such as 'Encore,' a typical AC radio-friendly song, as well as the groovy, all-French lyric 'Les Histoires,' also veer towards overtly commercial formats—which remain a not unthinkable future direction for the charismatic singer.

In fact, this foray into commercial genres causes some minor production issues (Provencher produced the whole record herself at home), sequencing being the most obvious. More, it aesthetically displaces focus away from the many delectable moments such as the entertaining 'Eu Quero Um Samba' and the flute-filled 'Feminina' with its superb nylon-string guitar solo. In instances where she arrives at combining both aesthetics into a single production—such as in Baden Powell's 'Canto De Ossanha'—the end results are found to be not at all displeasing even if somewhat remote from more classic performances. Notwithstanding its lack of focus and occasional conspicuousness, b.coming remains an outing likely to be enjoyed by music fans and general audiences alike. 01 the beat goes on 03:40 02 a little rain must fall 04:41 03 poor beggar 04:21 04 were you cryin 04:58 05 cafe rapsodia 05:26 06 you make me feel so young 04:48 07 how could you 05:28 08 it shouldnt happen to a dream 05:03 09 fly boy 04:49 10 dont forget youre alive 05:03 11 half empty 05:13 12 time to tango 04:13 13 jazzin in me 04:57 14 the beat goes on 06:32 Paula s voice will reach out and grab you!

Then they rejoined forces with James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), producer of the previous two Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets albums, in Brooklyn, NY to complete the tracks that became Humbug. Living In High Definition 7:14 12. Sailing 5:15 You know, writers often enjoy chronicling an artist’s career from its very beginning to illustrate his or her staying power, progress or maturity over the years, etc. In the case of guitar virtuoso George Benson, clearly one of the most respected and admired guitar legends around, years just don’t seem to matter and, in fact, just melt into one huge mist of excellence that seems to simply disregard a beginning yet has no end.

I can probably say nothing here that hasn’t already been said about this musical giant who sings, plays, and has indulged in practically every major musical genre almost effortlessly. Add that to the ever-growing company of artists who have come to know, experience, and respect the genius of Benson, and you’ve got an indelible chapter in the history of music that bears exploring time and time again. I Don't Need Anything ( 3:37) From the wreckage of roughly 20 nameless and faceless Los Angeles bands, Neon Horse arose as a collective of session musicians, home studio producers waiters, and postal workers who found a commonality among themselves as background players in the big picture of the L.A. After passing each other at dozens of shows sometimes only to lend a hand with a busted chord or broken string, sometimes to keep an eye on the gear in the parking lot and sharing countless tables for after hours war stories, the rather clich d inevitable occurred and Neon Horse was formed. Citing influences broad in range from the Rock of AC/DC, Oingo Boingo, and even the Stooges to the Sass of Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, and the Eurythmics the band set out to make music they could play with a straight face. Eclectic and manic, Neon Horse is a band of Rock and Roll roots in the purest form: An ever changing mercurial, addictive and at times, slightly bizarre continuation of Rock s re-inventive nature. Watch Me Disappear Hidden Hands is Jen Cloher's follow up to her ARIA nominated debut album Dead Wood Falls (2006). The album was recorded live over seven days at Woodstock in Melbourne, where Cloher enlisted the services of ARIA winning producer Paul McKercher (Augie March, Sarah Blasko) and creative genius Laura Jean to join her in producing the album.

Hidden Hands is like being handed a confidential diary and the album is a strong representation the country-rock grit and grace of the Endless Sea's live performance. 01 Prospekt 04:16 02 Klippings 05:18 03 Expekt 04:18 04 Oktober 05:55 05 Kmas 06:51 06 Kreuzberg 963 02:29 07 Skypeiano 04:11 08 Poka 03:56 09 10 O'clock 03:19 10 Jonktion 1205 07:02 11 Barack 04:35 12 Take I / Take II 08:17 The K Syndrome is composed of 12 tracks recorded in Switzerland Germany and the United States and mastered by Denis Blackham at Skye Mastering. Little Girl Prepare to be surprised, though: If the press surrounding Milky Ways, the third LP proper from French producer Joakim is to be believed, the new album will be a total departure from the fuzzy disco of 2007’s Monsters & Silly Songs. Inspiration is said to have been derived through extensive touring around the period of that last record, as Joakim and his group (formerly known as the Ectoplasmic Band) honed their skills on the road.

The resulting album takes in moments of “psychedelia, old-school computer music, exotica, electro-pop, blues, new wave, New Pop, Krautrock,” in ten tracks and 51 minutes. The release marks something of a resurfacing for Joakim who, after a sustained period of prominence in and around 2007/2008 through a flurry of remix work, had been relatively quiet of late. Working with renowned producer Alex Newport (who holds a Fudge Tunnel pedigree and has worked with such luminaries as At the Drive-In, The Locust and Sepultura), Pissed Jeans have pushed further into the raw, minimal core of heavy rock music with King of Jeans. Masters of the mundane, beasts of the banal, high priests of the humdrum: these four, white, male high school graduates hardly look further than their own appendages for artistic inspiration, content to execute their own brand of brash and heavy punk music in the Joe Carducci-approved standard rock formation of guitar, bass, drums and vocals.

From simple minds and simple fabrics comes this King of Jeans. And there can be only one.

Like their last release - 2007's Favourite Worst Nightmare - Humbug will be released first in Japan, on 19 August 2009, followed by Australia, on 21 August 2009. It will then be released in the UK on 24 August 2009 and in the US the following day. The release precedes the band's headline performances at the Reading and Leeds Festivals at the end of that week. The album's cover was revealed on the band's website on 22 June 2009.

The songs 'My Propeller', 'Secret Door', 'Cornerstone', 'Pretty Visitors' and 'Dance Little Liar' were leaked onto the Internet on July 26th, 27th and 28th, respectively. Early previews of the album sest that it is a departure from the style of the band's first two albums, with a prevailing influence from lead singer Alex Turner's The Last Shadow Puppets - the same 'laconic croon' has been adopted by the whole band, 'injecting the Arctics with a new sound that sends them onto wild soundscaping adventures'. The album has been described as has having a 'carnival-esque atmosphere', but it is described as a 'spooky and ethereal trip, a lysergic cavalcade that haunts every track'. The band themselves sested that the album would be 'full-on', with tracks influenced by Black Sabbath, Alex Turner revealed that the band had listened to Jimi Hendrix and Cream while writing the new album. Explodera Mig In January 2006 Johan and Lars had a couple of beers at Lars apartment in Stockholm. They knew each other since 3 years while DJ-ing together at a Stockholm rock club, but they never thought about making music together They shared a similar taste in music.

Early 80s post-punk like Cure, Chameleons, B-movie and Magazine, and also early 90s indie music like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Shed Seven. Almost instantly they discovered that their musical ideas, visions and experiences was complementing each other perfectly, and during the next two months they wrote and recorded ten songs in Lars home based studio. Johan got a history as a singer/guitarist in the underground pop band Prune in the late 90s, and since the year 2000 he play the bass in the critical acclaimed Swedish rock group Fake Moss.

Lars has been the guitarist in various industrial bands like Seven Trees and Run Level Zero. He has also been making electro-music under the alias of Kodji since the year 2000. The band name, The Exploding Boy, and the new songs spread like wild fire in the Stockholm rock and indie scene.

In only a couple of months their music had been played by DJs at 15 of the best clubs in Sweden. One of the demos found its way to the Swedish electro producer Sophie Rimheden. She liked what she heard and agreed to produce the song “Vampire”, a tribute to one of the bands favorite hangouts, the Vampire Lounge.

After being approached by a couple of record companies that liked the music and wanted to see The Exploding Boy perform live, Johan and Lars decided to gather some friends from the music scene to form a complete line up. In the beginning of April rehearsals started with Mario, Nicklas, Stefan and Tord, all of them with a musical past from different beloved Swedish bands. Everything fell in to place and the band made their live debut at Fight Club/Stampen Stockholm the 5:th of May, The venue was totally sold out and the band conquered and explode! Since the release of the self titled 2007 debut-CD, the demand for The Exploding Boy as a live act has constantly increased. In 2008 and 2009 the band managed to combine two short tours of France and Germany with the production of their second full length album.

The music and sound of The Exploding Boy has been updated and refined on Afterglow. The album has received great reviews, probably because it contains some pretty amazing songs.

The first single, 'The Journey' was released to radio July 13th in North America and is set to be released in Europe on August 10th. It is set to include a new version of 'Apple Of My Eye', a song featured on O'Riordan's debut solo album, 'Are You Listening?' Come Closer 02. Oooh Yeah 03.

Compared to acts like My Bloody Valentine, Autolux, Eric's Trip, Th' Faith Healers, Dandy Warhols and even Swervedriver on occasion, they give a nod to their predecessors, but their music is a thoroughly modern marriage of diverse musical backgrounds and years of experience. Heat-ray began when seasoned Calgary veteran, guitarist Aaron Smelski (Hot Little Rocket and Lotus Galaxy) and vocalist Sheila Mann (Lotus Galaxy) decided to again pursue their love of loud and lush guitar-based pop music. Matt Pahl, guitarist/frontman of Edmonton's The Floor, moved to Calgary in April 2007 and quickly joined their cause. The trio completed their new line-up in the fall of 2007 with Jon Pynn on drums and guitarist Joel Tobman on bass (both formerly of Shiver). They quickly gained attention and fans in Calgary by 'charming audiences with their onstage version of a controlled nuclear reaction'.

Since their inception, heat-ray have taken the stage with bands like Minus the Bear, The Cops, and The Dodos. They made a 'huge splash' at Calgary's Sled Island festival in 2008, and have been on a steady trajectory ever since. The group recently completed their full-length album, 'Loveallover', with producer Arran Fisher of The Summerlad. The album has been picked up by Pop Echo Records and is set for release in the summer of 2009.

'They are like all of my favourite bands in one ching, soaring behemoth. The guitars are loud and surround you, the vocals purr/whisper sweet nothings (and somethings) in your ear, filling the hole in your soul left by My Bloody Valentine's eternal vacation. Heat-ray are a rock n' roll space gun charged and ready to blow your ass to kingdom come.' Black River Killer 2.

Big Black Bird As its title would lead one to believe, the 'Black River Killer' EP contains the disturbing and great song “Black River Killer” from Blitzen Trapper’s excellent Sept. ‘08 full-length album 'Furr'. What is perhaps less evident from the title is that it also contains 6 more songs that have been, up to now, only available as a CDR that Blitzen Trapper has been selling at their live performances for the past year or so. On Rose Walk, Insomniac 8. Berkeley by Hearseback 9. The Blackest Purse 10. Eskimo Snow A year and a half after releasing the acclaimed Alopecia LP, WHY? Returns with their fourth album, Eskimo Snow. The two records are each other's perfect foil: While last year's release found Yoni Wolf and the gang delivering a tight set of intricate rhymes, live loops, slurred hooks, and acerbic wit, Eskimo Snow offers a sung, sobering take on mortality that unfurls in lush waves of Americana and pop-infused psych-folk.

Pre-mixed in Nashville by Lambchop's Mark Nevers (Silver Jews, Bonnie Prince Billy, Calexico) and worked over by Alopecia engineer Eli Crews, this album is WHY?' S most live-sounding yet--a shadowy and sprawling piece as intimate in subject matter as it is handsome in timbre. Actually recorded Eskimo Snow at the same time as Alopecia, at Minneapolis' Third Ear studio, with Fog's Andrew Broder and Mark Erickson rounding out a live quintet. The vision for two separate albums emerged on a snowed-in night after a hot toddy or two.

If Alopecia, however inexplicably, maintains a summery tone, then Eskimo Snow captures the bite and resignation associated with the Midwestern winters that these Cincinnati boys grew up with. 'These Hands' opens the album up rich and with deliberate pacing, Doug matching Yoni word-for-word (you'll find no vocal overdubs here) and the rhythm section operating under heavy reverb. Vibraphone likewise duets with piano, windy wordless vocals fly around the atmosphere, and wet footsteps soon carry us to 'January Twenty Something.' Here, you're in the room with WHY?, listening to the bass rattle the drums and the drums rattle the vibes. Amid this folksy grandness, the whole crew sings for the chorus, bending their harmony into a gorgeously warped drawl. Next, 'Against Me' brings the album's brightest moment yet: a crescendo of bells that eventually dips into an aural whirlpool while Yoni spins picturesque observations like a countrified Dylan.

Across Eskimo Snow, Yoni weighs his ability to create a legacy against life's transience. On the luxe, pedal-steel-drenched 'Even the Good Wood Gone,' he transposes himself with a mummy in a museum, begging, 'No flash photography,' drawing a line from the dubious promise of fame to the brittleness of antiquity.

For 'Into the Shadows of My Embrace,' he explores sex and decay while the track vacillates between a live wall-of-sound and spare church organ passages. 'One Rose' is gentler, sporting a Western stride and dark piano hits whose echoing blackness mimics Yoni's wistful poems. Toward the song's end, the chorus of Alopecia's 'A Sky for Shoeing Horses Under' makes a stormy reprise. Most impressively, this record presents a band uninhibited, but evermore accomplished at imbuing sound with mood. 'On Rose Walk, Insomniac' rolls forth on a tempestuous din, Josiah drumming hard through the chorus, where Yoni's voice sounds like its running through a Leslie speaker.

'Berkeley By Hearseback' comes in so soft, the guitar tones feel like waves of grain next to the splashy cymbals and that Jim James-worthy cowboy croon ricocheting through the background. 'This Blackest Purse' weaves a melancholy that shirks dourness for a curious smile. And when the titular song brings the album to a hushed close, Eskimo Snow's place in the narrative becomes clear.

Rather than spit at death or threaten it with suicide, Yoni stops bucking against the inevitable. In the process, the band discovers a rich place that the rest of us can happily live within. Seen It All 2.

The Girls Are Alright 10. Hard Swallow 11. Ride the Artifact 13. The Last Days Fate Lions was founded in 2007 by songwriter and front man, Jason Manriquez.

And, though the band has seen a few incarnations, it has ultimately evolved into a quartet of talented pop, rock and folk musicians culled from the North Texas independent music community. “In about a year’s time, they’ve gone from so-so Americana act to one of the best pop-rock bands around. I’d have to tip my hat to ‘em anyway just for doing what they’re doing: conjuring up Nick Lowe-ish, R.E.M.-y, Elvis Costello-esque ‘80s radio pop. But the Fate Lions aren’t just aping some sort of distinctive sound from yesteryear to milk sympathy from old nostalgic tools like me. They’re being the real deal, expertly mixing jangly, cranky, countrified, Rickenbacker-tinged solos with snappy, toe-tapping beats and ooh-ahh-ing harmonies. ” — Anthony Mariani, Fort Worth Weekly The band spent a year recording “Good Enough For You” (an album title jokingly plucked from Manriquez’ own experiences regarding family and, oddly enough, food) at Salim Nourallah’s Pleasantry Lane studio in Dallas, Texas. Fate Lions was without a bass player at the time of the recording, so Nourallah stepped in to fill the bill while also producing the album.

They have since adopted Tony Ferraro (Eaton Lake Tonics, Bob Fante) as their full-time bassist. “Fate Lions, like Nourallah, make thoughtful but unrepentantly sumptuous pop with ear-tickling sonic flourishes such as creamy layers of background vocals, hand claps, tambourines, and enigmatic lyrics that step right up to the brink of melancholy but never fall into ennui.” — Jimmy Fowler, Fort Worth Weekly Cory Helms (Polyphonic Spree, Professional Juice) filled in on keys, and regular band members Niki Saukam and Josh Hoover played guitar and drums, respectively. The result is a lush, bright and melodic pop album that takes its listeners through landscapes of 80s riffs and 60s fillers, while keeping its feet planted firmly in the present through brilliant tongue-in-cheek lyrics and original toe-tapping melodies. “Saukam’s and Manriquez’ guitars retain just enough snarl to remind listeners of the mother lode of Teenage Fanclub, Elvis Costello, and Smiths songs that inform the Lions’ sound.”. 1 Here To Fall 2 Avalon Or Someone Very Similar 3 By Two's 4 Nothing To Hide 5 Periodically Double Or Triple 6 If It's True 7 I'm On My Way 8 When It's Dark 9 All Your Secrets 10 More Stars Than There Are In Heaven 11 The Fireside 12 And The Glitter Is Gone We have an old saying at Matador HQ, “the only thing predictable about Yo La Tengo albums is their high level of excellence and crazy amount of musical ground covered”.

Trouble is, even if you believe we really have an old saying that unwieldly, it doesn’t really do justice in this instance. The new Yo La Tengo CD/2XLP/digital album ‘Popular Songs” could be the bravest musical statement to date in a career full of ‘em.

Recorded in Hoboken and Nashville in early 2009 with longtime associate Roger Mountenot, ‘Popular Songs’ finds the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew at the height of their creative powers, fashioning an epic work that’s cooly confident as it is wildly adventurous. Even for longtime followers of Yo La Tengo, the stylistic range encompassed on ‘Popular Songs’ is startling; the band aren’t merely conversant with rock & pop subgenres stretching into the double digits, but their unselfconscious mastery of such is simply uncanny. Without absolving you of the sacred responsibility of listening to this album from start to finish (with no commercial interruptions!), we can say with full confidence there are portions of ‘Popular Songs’ where a cursory needle drop reveals a band that doesn’t sound instantly like Yo La Tengo — or at least how you recognized them prior to now.

In the words of Mike Wolf, “Yo La Tengo is not afraid. They walk confidently forward, into the unknown, hand in hand. And 12 (or 14) albums in, they may just be hitting their stride.”. Break The Glass 3:26 2.

The Prance (Bonus Track) 3:38 It’s hard to remember those days when Hundred Reasons first arrived on the scene, sounding so fresh and exhilarating. Listening to their subsequent releases, the memory of what once was begins to blur and become little more than a myth. You can actively deceive yourself that what happened back there was your fault - that naivety got the better of you, and you embraced Hundred Reasons far too readily.

Yet you can’t have been alone. Only a powerful, popular start allows a band to drift on for so long in this manner, on towards the middle of the road. Quick The Word, Sharp The Action probably won’t restore your faith in Hundred Reasons. It won’t get your heart beating faster.

It is, at best, a decent pop record with a smattering of riffery that connects this band to their past. Shun that desire for rocking out and there are plenty of tunes to sing along with.

‘No Way Back’, ‘Sick Little Masquerade’, ‘Boy’ and ‘Out Of Time’ are simple ditties beefed up with the traditional crescendos. They won’t blow you away, but they could each be successful radio hits. And as much as you want to fight back against this tide, you’re powerless to prevent Hundred Reasons getting older and tamer. Accept them on these terms, and Quick The Word, Sharp The Action will win over the part of your soul that enjoys a bit of cheesiness. As an artistic prospect, though, Hundred Reasons are wearying and worn out; a band that can’t make up their minds. They imprison themselves in formulaic structures and then fight to break out of them - this is a band that desperately, desperately wants to tread new ground, yet because of their own limitations, and especially their kowtowing to melody, the task is beyond them. Instead, this is a collection of songs that sounds bitterly frustrated, especially when instrumental ‘Pernavas Iela’ and the baffling metal of ‘The Shredder’ break the pop flow.

What do they want to be? By failing to make up their minds, Quick The Word becomes a rather confused album - one that has its moments but won’t reinvigorate the band’s career. High Time 3:46 2. Stand By Mode 5:50 3. Seven/Eight 2:51 4.

Ayoe Angelica is one of those young talents you unsuccessfully could travel around the world looking for. And then it turns out that she walks around in Scandinavia in the small country of Denmark. The 20-year-old Danish/Ethiopian singers’ debut I’m amazed is an album that sets new standards for what modern pop, jazz/soul can, and wants to do. Ayoe Angelica wants to do quite a lot.

Besides presenting us to some of the most intelligent music with hit guarantee heard in a long time, she is also a young woman with great social and human indignation. Arm Yourselves & Run 11. Bad Harvest 12. North Star New Model Army are a legendary global underground cult band. Formed by Justin Sullivan in Bradford in 1980, their beginnings were inspired by Punk Rock, Northern Soul and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey.

They have been massively influential in ‘post-punk’, ‘folk-rock’, ‘politico-rock’, ‘goth’, ‘metal’ and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but have successfully resisted belonging to any of these categories or genres. After nearly thirty years, they have never lost the ability to change, to thrill or to challenge and they remain central to the lives of thousands of fans from all walks of life spread across the world. In September 2009 they will release their eleventh studio album entitled 'Today Is A Good Day'.

Mostly written last autumn in the wake of the Wall Street Collapse (an event celebrated in the white-hot opening title track), the recording was postponed by the sudden and unexpected death at Christmas of Tommy Tee, the band's long-time friend and manager. However, with another long-time friend Chris Kimsey (notable for his work with the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Cliff, Killing Joke and countless others) at the controls, the album is now finished - once again filled with unclassifiable music and challenging lyrical ideas.

As a cabinet store worker by day and a musician by night, Hires always had a passion for music.Matt’s father, also a musician, introduced him to music at a young age, giving him the handmade guitar that Matt continues to play. Initially drawn to the punk and post-hardcore scene, Matt later developed an interest in artists like Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, which explains the uniqueness of his vocal and instrumental harmonies that dabble in both traditional and contemporary musical realms.

Matt’s early career began as a part of a quartet of friends, named Brer. After leaving Brer, Hires began performing as a solo artist and uploaded his recordings on Myspace, where Atlantic Records A&R executive, Gregg Nadel, fell in love with his sound. Soon Hires began working with producer Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos, David Archuleta) who helped him fine-tune his songwriting.

Matt Hires seems to be the epitome of the sunshine state: bare-footed, artistic, and coolly easy-going. But there's a lot more to him than meets the eye.

Although he was a hockey player and enjoyed surfing and skateboarding, Matt was self-proclaimed nerd. Now, as a solo artist, Matt is poised to captivate audiences with his endearing personality, melodic sound, and undeniable talent. All This to Say (3:33) Sleeping at Last is an emo/alternative rock band that was originally formed in 1998 in Wheaton, Illinois. Members of the band are lead singer, guitarist, and pianist Ryan O'Neal, bassist and keys Dan Perdue, and drummer Chad O'Neal. The group built a significant local following and opened for bands such as The Appleseed Cast and Switchfoot, attracting the attention of Billy Corgan, who got them signed to Interscope Records in 2002. Their major label debut, Ghosts, followed in 2003.

National touring ensued, first opening for Zwan, then for Yellowcard, Something Corporate, The Format, and Bleu. They received airplay on Fuse TV and their song 'Quicksand' was featured in the third season of Grey's Anatomy. Their third full-length, Keep No Score, was released independently. On November 29, 2008, it was announced that Chad O'Neal would be moving on to pursue other interests. Storyboards is finally available as a Pre-Order & Early Download! We do our own thing, march to the beat of our own drums, generally aspire to be the best musicians we can be, and try to translate that through our recordings and performance. None of us are very good at talking on stage:/.

We might be the shyest band you'll ever see, but we're still very happy and grateful to be playing for you. We just really like to play music and aren't very smooth talkers. We started off as the local 'hardcore' band. We don't really know if that is still what we are, but things change in our world just like they do in yours.

We don't put in metal solos and blast beats, not because we can't, but because they often don't fit in artistically with what we write. We only play breakdowns if the transition doesn't sound awkward. Our main influences are probably the appleseed cast and sigur ros, not underoath and norma jean. We paint our songs aurally, using notes as colors and progressions as a medium. The only thing you should expect from us is to keep making the best music that we can, we have confidence you'll like it. But if you're looking for chug chug chug weee in every song, please go to another band's page.

We try to be as honest as we can, as hopefully you can tell. All of this music means a very great deal to us. Actually, to be real it means more to us than anything else in the world. If you read the lyrics, you'll see some of this stuff sits very close to the heart. No one wants sex or money. We want respect and recognition. This music has integrity and pride coming from our very beings, but we also want to be humble and just push forward.

We have confidence, but at the same practice humility and modesty for ourselves. Never put syrup on your roffelz.

Whether we're straight edge or a circle, christian music or death metal,we don't think it matters. We're about taking responsibility for our own actions either way, as you should be. You don't need to thank us for the add, we do it to expose ourselves. We should be thanking you for the time you took to listen.

We appreciate it more than any other band in the world. If you'd like to take the time to talk to us, we will gladly talk back. No one here is a rock star or anything close. Other than that, trust us when we tell you that we've been through more hits than most bands you probably know.

Every time we fall, we come back. It's as easy as that. From a diamond hard resilience, a love for what is good, and unconditional brotherhood. Rosaline is the ripped banner in the sun, but still a waving banner none the less. Nice post hardcore, very melodic and powerful. Our Velocity 3. The Heart of a Lonely Storm 4.

Plastic Dresses 5. Primary Colours 8. Everyone, Everyone 9. Take the Picture 10. Light and Sound Try to imagine all your favorite sounds. Imagine melody, harmony, summer shore lines and the drones from the engines that got you there.

Now, take these sounds and drive them through an endless onslaught of distortion pedals and rapid-fire drums and you've got a little bit of Kestrels - a polite mix of sincerity and guitar rock excess, of melody and vibration, of every sound you ever loved sounding like you've never heard it before. After releasing their first 7' on Noyes Records ('Seaside' b/w 'On Our Time') to high acclaim, the boys are back with their first long-player. Crafted over three years in 6 different studios, 'Primary Colours' is a wonderfully ambitious and ambitiously wonderful debut album that begs to be listened to over and over again. An album like a charming scoundrel, making nice with your record player and then refusing to let her see other records. A skin of loud, distorted instruments hiding a layer of beautiful pop melodies just under the surface.

Tracks such as 'Sailed On', 'Our Velocity' and 'Ridicule' showcase the band brilliantly balancing noise pop and melody with a heavy rhythm section and colossal guitars. Hey, there's even a guitar solo here and there. The album is a CD/LP and was released on July 7th via Canada's Noyes Records. The launch of “Brotherhood” returns the Blackburn brothers to the prominence they enjoyed when entertaining packed houses at their old stomping ground, the Bamboo Club. For 15 formidable years, they were part of Toronto’s street culture representing a lineage of unmistakable nocturnal hedonism. New Orleans has the Neville Brothers; Toronto’s Blackburn similarly fires up live shows with scorching soul power.

The brothers put on a show rich in the tradition of the blues, while inflected with an electric urban vibe. Blackburn’s wickedly tight sound features lead singer, Duane Blackburn, playing a vintage Hammond B3 organ as if he was born on the bench. Duane has a sensuously smooth, yet powerful voice. Crack session guitarist Brooke and drummer Cory have played with many of Canada’s best blues and R&B artists, such as Shakura S’Aida and Liberty Silver. Bass player Mark Ayee has played with the brothers since childhood.

Well-known in Toronto’s African Canadian music scene, Duane, Brooke and Cory Blackburn follow a rich legacy, passed down from their father Bobby Dean Blackburn, that trails back to the Underground Railroad. Their dad led the band at the Zanzibar Tavern on Yonge Street during the 60s and 70s. Brooke carries on his father’s leadership as Artistic Director of Canada’s longest running summer festival in Owen Sound, The Emancipation Festival. A stunning performance. Simply magnificent.”. The album will be widely available on CD and digitally, and it will also be exclusively available for purchase on vinyl LP from www.georgethorogood.com and at the band s concerts on tour. Thorogood & The Destroyers will travel to more than 30 U.S. Cities this summer on a tour that includes 22 co-headlining dates with Jonny Lang The Dirty Dozen features Thorogood s signature blues-rock vocals and guitar playing on 12 songs, many of which were written by a who s-who of American blues legends, including Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Sleepy John Estes, Chuck Berry Howlin Wolf, and Willie Dixon. The album s new recordings and fan favorites are grouped as LP-inspired sides I'm a big fan of vinyl, says George Thorogood, It s important to me to make The Dirty Dozen available on LP, and I definitely had vinyl in mind as one of the formats for this release when we were recording the new tracks. When we started sequencing the track list, I thought it would be fun to group the songs like an LP, for all of the formats - vinyl, CD, and digital - just as they would be placed for a classic vinyl album. Silver Moon 3:25 13. Hidden Track 3:51 While Barry Goldberg's recording career is largely hogged by tapes of jam sessions dominated by blues cover versions, he was an excellent songwriter and more than deserved the respectful treatment he got here from a production team that consisted of none other than Bob Dylan and Jerry Wexler. This is a collection of ten of Goldberg's original songs, including the title 'Imagination' that was a hit for Gladys Knight & the Pips. Goldberg may not have the voice or the personality to have been a leading singer/songwriter type, but his delivery certainly suits most of the numbers, such as the fun 'Big City Woman' and the intriguing 'Shady Hotel.' On other numbers, at least Goldberg has the benefit of being able to say he wrote the songs, since there is just no way he can compete with Gladys Knight vocally.

His 'It's Not the Spotlight,' on the other hand, is such a classic performance that the entire issue of his vocal presence is unimportant. A large cast takes part in the proceedings, including none of this artist's usual cohorts. A nice pastiche of different roots genres takes place, no surprise considering the involvement of Dylan, who can be heard contributing background vocals here and there as well as a touch of percussion. A soulful rhythm section featuring keyboardist Barry Beckett, bassist David Hood, and drummer Roger Hawkins is on board, and is just what the material needs, but there are also shades of country and old-timey courtesy of pickers such as banjoist Rule Yarborough and fiddler Al Lester. On the whole, this is an unjustly neglected album and a feather in Dylan's producer's hat, which he hardly ever wears. Photograph 6:20 2. Picture To Burn 4:37 3.

Barely out of his teens he worked on 2 Live Crew's notorious album ' As Nasty As They Wanna Be' and with Daddy-O of Stetsasonic. After leaving his adopted home-base in Denmark, Eddie returned to Los Angeles and formed The Polyamorous Affair with spouse and former primary school teacher, Sissy Sainte-Marie.

Together the two deliver the inspired dance beats of Giorgio Moroder and the raw sexuality of Serge Gainsbourg's collaborations with vixens, Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot. Give that a twist of Marc Bolan-esque hooks and Goldfrapp's technological pagan naturist ways and you get The Polyamorous Affair. Their songs have been praised by queen blogger, Perez Hilton and used on the TV show Ugly Betty. Get ready to pass 'Face Control' and brace yourself for Bolshevik Disco'.

New In Town (No One Is Safe: Al Karpanos Remix) 5:23 03. Stuck On Repeat (Acoustic) 4:27 2009 album from Electro-Pop artist Victoria Hesketh AKA Little Boots. Hands is 42 minutes of pulse-racing, heart-felt crystalline Dance Pop and, best of all, the album lives up to the hype (myspace action, Jools Holland appearance, etc.). Kicking off with the Greg Kurstin-produced single 'New in Town', Hands contains a carefully chosen selection of her 'early' tracks ('Click', 'Earthquake', 'Mathematics', 'Meddle' and 'Stuck On Repeat') as well as some brand new tunes that are guaranteed to be massive (listen to 'Remedy' now!) The end result is a Pop album that rises above the rest; one that contains universal melodies sung with heart-felt passion.

Bowie, who died in 1999, not only influenced Douglas's approach to playing, composing and arranging, he obviously taught Douglas a thing or two about defying boundaries. 'In a way, he fought for the equality of all music,' Douglas writes in the liner notes, 'always with joyousness and good humor.' Those same traits are evident throughout 'Spirit Moves,' a witty mix of New Orleans swagger and Memphis soul, vintage refrains and contemporary pop.

While the ensemble's instrumentation (trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba and drums) lends itself to Crescent City sounds and Bowie's brand of 'serious fun,' Douglas casts his net wide. Besides fashioning tributes to trumpeters Fats Navarro and Enrico Rava, the Grammy-nominated trumpeter imaginatively rearranges Rufus Wainwright's 'This Love Affair' and Otis Redding's 'Mr. Pitiful' en route to the album's haunting coda, a soulful rendering of Hank Williams's 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.'

Fans of Bowie's work with his Brass Fantasy ensemble will find plenty to enjoy here. And surely with a little exposure, Brass Ecstasy will find its own loyal following. 01 Prelude 02 A Strange Arrangement 03 Just Ain't Gonna Work Out 04 Maybe So, Maybe No 05 Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Pleasin' Nothin' 06 I Wish It Would Rain 07 Make Her Mine 08 One Track Mind 09 The Ills 10 Shiny & New 11 Let Me Know 12 Green Eyed Love In the annals of whiteness, Mayer Hawthorne is a glass of skim milk, a corpse pulled from a lake, a man so pale-skinned he's damn near blue. On the cover of his debut record, A Strange Arrangement, he looks like Tobey McGuire as directed by Wes Anderson, making a donation to NPR as the Starlight Vocal Band plays in the background.

He is that white. His name is Mayer Hawthorne, for chrissakes! But then you listen to Hawthorne's music and you suddenly realize this thirty-year-old nebbish from Detroit is a good glory ~censored~ give the drummer some SOUL SANGER!

A Strange Arrangement is a master class in soul music, jumping from Curtis Mayfield's bongo-fueled funk to the slow-dancin' groove of the Stylistics. Fair warning: The LP doesn't hit shelves until September. But the first single is already out, and it's a killer. On 'Just Ain't Gonna Work Out,' Hawthorne cribs one of Bobby Womack's classic spoken-word intros before leaning into an aching falsetto that invokes Smokey Robinson at his sweetest.

And his talent doesn't stop there: Hawthorne plays every instrument, and arranged the album, too. So Fine 4:05 Expanding upon the sensuous and romantic smooth jazz vibe that has made him one of the genre's most dynamic saxophonists, Paul Taylor brings us his new Peak Records release, Burnin', creating some of his most soulful instrumental tracks ever. Capturing all of the soulful grooves, dazzling melodies and seductive magic that have become his trademark, Burnin' perfectly reflects the incredible synergy the charismatic Taylor has had for over a decade with his devoted audience, and takes his music to a whole new urban adult contemporary dimension. The collection is also the sax man's fourth in a row--after 2003's Steppin' Out, 2005's Nightlife, and 2007's Ladies' Choice-to feature tracks helmed by veteran R&B/jazz producers Barry Eastmond (Al Jarreau, Regina Belle, Jonathan Butler, Anita Baker) and Rex Rideout (Ledisi, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, Boney James, Najee).

Somewhat frustratingly for the rest of us, Portland-based producer Johnny Jewel seems to have found his niche recruiting attractive singers to his various disco projects. Having already released albums with Chromatics and Glass Candy (fronted by Ruth Radelet and Ida No respectively), Jewel formed Desire after spotting vocalist Megan-Louise singing in a Montreal bar. Joining them is drummer Nat Walker from Chromatics, making Desire a kind of supergroup of musicians from New Jersey label Italians Do It Better. Under the stewardship of Mike Simonetti, the fledgling imprint has become synonymous with blissed-out disco, and now boasts quality acts like Bottin, Tiedye and Professor Genius in its stable.

But its Jewel's projects that feature prominently: Chromatics' 2007 album Night Drive, along with the After Dark compilation of the same year, first brought IDIB into the limelight. This offering is very much in keeping with Jewel's style: sharp piano stabs and synthesizers form a subtle, icy backdrop to sultry vocals. What sets Jewel's work apart from many other disco acts is his reluctance to use computers and new equipment in both production and live performance, thus giving the music an analog quality that is infinitely more arresting than most contemporary disco counterparts. The majority of the lyrical content is bleak; this is not an album that grabs you on the first listen. Instead, I found myself slowly succumbing to its charms after several runs through. 'Mirroir Mirroir' is the most accessible and dancefloor-orientated song on the album, with Louise echoing that well-worn fairytale phrase, 'Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all.'

Then her dark lyrics come to the fore: 'I worked so hard and for what?Show me your heart and I'll show you my blood.' After 'Don't Call,' a classic piece of disco-noir, the album takes a noticeable spin towards the melancholic, with prominent Italo beats replaced by slower, moodier synths and high-end piano. On 'Dans Mens Reve' a saxophone solo follows an introduction reminiscent of a needle running over vinyl (as previously used by Jewel in Chromatics' 'In the City'). Jewel's instruments take a back seat to Megan-Louise's vocals on 'Oxygene,' while 'If I Can't Hold You,' with three minutes of static after the track is finished, brings II to a moody, wordless close. Hailing from the unsuspecting locale of Madison, WI, Zola Jesus—the alter ego of Nika Roza Danilova—occupy a sphere of sparse industrial rhythms, no-fi drones, and ethereal femme vocals. Those who have seen her handful of live shows, heard her WFMU set, or caught any of the acclaimed, sought after, and now mostly out of print releases on Die Stasi or Troubleman Unlimited already know. For those uninitiated The Spoils may be the most fully realized representation of her sound. Zola Jesus have two previous releases on Sared Bones, the Souer Sewer single and a limited CD of a live performance from WNYU. The Outer Folds Throw Me the Statue is an indie folk group from Seattle, Washington, United States which consists of singer/songwriter/guitarist Scott Reitherman and a revolving lineup of musicians and formed in 2005.

TMTS’ debut record “Moonbeams” was issued in 2008. It features the single “Lolita”. The band’s new EP, “Purpleface” was released in early 2009. Perhaps more sonically upbeat than its predecessor, Creaturesques details are at times painted in both optimistic and sobering tones. Reithermans scattershot poetics touch on an array of ideas its oppressive American machisimo and Suburbanite sexuality. Its soft drugs and convertible cars. Its the strle for higher expectations within the mess of modern life, and when wrapped up in the structures of Throw Me the Statues sure-handed tunes its an all too delicious combination.

Flipsyde is a rap/R&B/rock band from Oakland, California. Flipsyde consists of band members Steve Knight, Dave Lopez, Jinho 'the Piper' Ferreira, and recently Chantelle Paige.

They have toured extensively with Fort Minor, The Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg and on the Anger Management Tour. Flipsyde's single, 'Someday', was chosen as NBC's theme song for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games held in Torino, Italy, as well as part of the soundtrack for the 2008 film Never Back Down.

Their debut album, We the People, also featured three other singles ('Happy Birthday', 'Trumpets (Never Be The Same Again)', and 'Angel') and was highly lauded by critics, including a review from the Washington Post proclaiming it the best hip hop album of 2006. In 2008, following the addition of Paige to the group, Flipsyde once again had a song of theirs selected as a theme song for the Olympics. This time their song 'Champion' was chosen as the theme for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, as well as the primary song for EA Sports NBA Live 09 video game. They enjoy touring in India, where their first tour took place in 2005 via VH1's Hip Hop Hustle, and have already performed there twice and may be planning a third trip. Recently it was announced through their MySpace that they had started touring with Akon, promoting their second studio album, State of Survival, produced by Akon and Konvict Muzik.

The album has started being released on varying dates across the world via Kon Live Distribution and Cherrytree Records, and contrary to earlier reports Akon is not featured on any tracks. In March 2009, Ferreira ('Piper') was selected to present his original screenplay 'Walter's Boys' in the Tribeca All Access Program (TAA) at the Tribeca Film Festival in Lower Manhattan, New York. 'Walter's Boys' is about 'a clandestine training operation led by an ex-CIA agent recruits urban teens, but faces treacherous consequences from the trainees’ intent to break free with the help of a former mentor.' Ferreira describes 'Walter's Boys' as 'an action thriller inspired by my brother-in-law Sgt. Elijah Warren's service in the Army's 5th Special Forces Group.

After he committed suicide I felt compelled to share the story I had created with others.' On April 24th, it was announced that Ferreira's script won best screenplay at the festival, netting him a $7000 prize as well as an original art piece.
