MORE INFO The mythic, yet, short lived Memphis band comprised of Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Andy Hummel, and Jody Stephens named Big Star, resides in the highest realms of power pop accolades for their three - at the time, overlooked- studio albums recorded between 1972-1974. Twenty years after their unceremonious dissolution, drummer Stephens recruited Posies' Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow and a wary Alex Chilton to reform Big Star at the request of two fanatical student DJs from University of Missouri. This two LP Record Store Day gatefold package finally captures that full historic set for the first time on a commercial release, mastered at high resolution from the original master tapes, and adding five previously unreleased performances to it’s original release in 1993 and now accurately re-titled, Complete Columbia: Live at University of Missouri 4/25/93. Limited to 4,000 copies.

MORE INFO Music On Vinyl and Sly & Robbie's legendary TAXI label collaborate with Record Store Day on this 4-track EP of brand new, previously unavailable material from two of Reggae's best singers: Bitty McLean and Bunny Rugs from Third World, including 'War Is Over' over a brand new 'riddim' (Jamaican term for instrumental). On 'Let Me Go Bar Bell Stylee' Bitty covers his hit over a riddim built using a loop from a 1975 Barbell production. Side B features the late great Bunny Rugs, one of Jamaica's most recognizable voices, better known as the lead singer of mega group Third World. In 2009 Rugs booked studio time to record new songs and in 2009 in Paris to work with producer and Sly & Robbie associate Guillaume Bougard on a new solo album produced with Sly & Robbie. This RSD release features a poignant and soulful cover of 'Rumours', one of Gregory's biggest hits. The song is followed by a earth shaking remix by Bitty McLean who mashes Bunny's vocals with a riddim built from a loop of Sly & Robbie's 'Guess who's coming to dinner' instrumental they had originally made for Black Uhuru in 1978.
That song had been sitting in the TAXI vaults until now and we are happy to introduce it to the public at last on Record Store Day. Limited Edition of 1500 numbered copies on red vinyl. Side One Bitty McLean - War Is Over Bitty McLean - Let Me Go Bar Bell Stylee Side Two Bunny Rugs - Rumours Bunny Rugs - Rumours Remix. MORE INFO A classic DIY release, Field Rexx was made in the sweltering summer of 2004 with no budget amidst the hiss of flies and tape. “Recorded,” according to the liner notes, “at the carny shack, fer shook n timsel on Duke’s shoot-o-matic for tisks & soda & that ol’ broke 4-track that 3-fingrd mike poured Old English on and lit on fire,” Rexx’s warped eclectic pop Americana proves that great songs and performances can transcend squalor and bad album art. Features archival material of the original Trapper, James Earley, performing snippets of traditional hillbilly tunes.
Field Rexx is Blitzen Trapper's self-released sophomore album originally released in 2005. It was remastered at the tail end of 2015 and is available on Record Store Day for the first time on vinyl. MORE INFO Named for The Shades, the Reading, UK folk club where he regularly performed, and which employed and housed guitar prodigy Derek Hall - who later played on Cooper's 1969 debut LP Oh Really!? - the little-heard Out of the Shades EP was released in an extremely limited edition by local label Kennet Recordings in 1965 as KRS 766. The songs were recorded live to a single microphone in the kitchen/bathroom/former outhouse of Mike's rambling Georgian apartment, on a portable Ferrograph reel-to-reel that the engineer otherwise used for 'recording birds and trains.'
Paradise of Bachelor's first-ever Record Store Day release is a also the first-ever reissue of Cooper's rare first recordings. Paul's Song 2. Livin' with the Blues 4. MORE INFO Hard to believe that that debut album from The D.O.C. Has been out of print on vinyl since just after its initial release in 1989. Hard to believe as this is one of Dr. Dre’s earliest production efforts outside of N.W.A.
And the full-length also stands as one of his best, and most over-looked, releases. The critical and commercial success of the release was undeniable with the project peaking at Number 20 on the Billboard Top 200 and going on to achieve platinum status. Was a monster on the mic, though his career was cut short due to suffering from a crushed larynx in an automobile accident just 5 months after the release of No One Can Do It Better.
Perhaps if that accident had never happened, this album would stand in the hip hop pantheon alongside Straight Out Of Compton and The Chronic. Musically, it is certainly deserving. In addition to Dre’s production, the album features contributions from all members of N.W.A. Get On Down is proud to present this too often over-looked portion of hip-hop’s West Coast best. The Estate of James Yancey has revived PayJay as a functioning imprint, and announced the release of J Dilla’s long lost vocal album, The Diary. The tracks come straight from multi-track masters found on 2-inch tape shortly after Dilla’s passing in 2006. Many were mixed by Dilla himself. Those that weren't have been mixed by engineer Dave Cooley, who worked extensively with Dilla during his years in Los Angeles. Using Dilla’s original demo mixes as his guide, Cooley attempted to finalize Dilla’s vision for these tracks, while keeping all of the elements that Dilla had in place in his original demos present.

'The frenetic 'Things She Says' could not have been more different... It's a singularly thrilling performance from start to finish with West's howling vocals and slobbering harmonica work and Jones's string-mangling guitar leads ricocheting like pinballs across the tough, hyper-adrenalized groove laid down by the others.'

MORE INFO No performer and venue are as intertwined in excellence as James Brown and Harlem’s fabled Apollo Theater. There are many releases of Brown and his J.B.’s recorded live at the Apollo. But, the performance captured here, originally slated for release in 1973, was not issued after the funk-filled night of its recording in 1972.
The material languished until recently when two cuts were included on 2013’s “Best of Live At The Apollo” with a digital release as part of a Live At The Apollo overview. This performance has never seen the vinyl issue it so deserves. In the early 70s Brown and the J.B.’s had reached, let’s call it maximum funk. The performances are impeccable and Brown’s sharing the spotlight with Lyn Collins (The Female Preacher), Bobby Byrd and of course the J.B.’s truly captures the scope of the Brown organization at the time.
For the first time ever on LP, Get On Down is proud to present “Get Down At The Apollo With The J.B.’s” as a double LP set for Record Store Day 2015. Danny Ray - Introduction Of The J.B.' S - Hot Pants Road 3. S - From The Back Side 4. S - Wine Spot 5. Fred Wesley - Introduction Of James Brown 6.

MORE INFO At a Songs:Ohia show in the early '00s, Jason Molina said to the artist William Schaff that he would love to see himself depicted as one of Schaff's signature, skull-headed creatures. The two struck up a pen-pal friendship and Schaff sent Jason his picture. In return, he asked for a recording of the Townes Van Zandt covers Jason had performed that night. The pair of Van Zandt covers included here, recorded at Molina's home on the north side of Chicago, symbolize not only the creative turn Molina's songwriting had taken (seen in his forthcoming Magnolia Electric Co. Release) from sparse and jagged indie rock to rootsy folk rock, but also a sonic bond between two friends who loved each other's work very deeply. After learning of Molina's death in 2013, Schaff spent days pouring over his lengthy correspondence with his friend, with Molina's oeuvre on repeat.
He created the painting that graces the cover of this release in the process: Apropos of everything, a skull-headed creature in flight. This special 7' release is limited to 3500 copies worldwide. Essential listening for any blues connoisseur, this is an adventure into some of the more hidden recesses of country blues. The Rough Guide To Unsung Heroes of Country Blues is released on vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day 2016. Includes a download card. MORE INFO On the Record Store Day-exclusive, limited edition colored vinyl 7' 'Shit Brick House', indie rap legend Sage Francis teams up with Strange Famous Records label-mates Buddy Peace and Buck 65 on 2 previously unreleased tracks unearthed from the sessions for his acclaimed 2014 LP 'Copper Gone'. The approach to storytelling and production on 'Shit Brick House' is reminiscent of Boogie Down Productions' classic 'Loves Gonna Get'cha' if it was directed by a circa 'Natural Born Killers' Oliver Stone. On 'Slumlord of the Slumlords,' Sage returns to his favorite pastime of shooting political fish-in-a-barrel over a nightmarish beat that may or may not have been sampled from a horror flick, all in time for the 2016 election!
You can't build a big dumb wall around everyone's ear, Mr. Beats by Dre already tried that. There are simply too many!
The lyrics for 'Shit Brick House' are presented in graphic-novella form on the full-color sleeve art by noted Helsinki artist Joonas Rinta-Kanto. 01 Brick Shit House 02 Slumlord of the Slumlords. MORE INFO This Record Store Day Exclusive release contains previously unreleased songs and is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide. In 1968, three sisters from Fremont, New Hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves The Shaggs. At that moment began a peculiar tale that would last far beyond the group's five-year run. Dot, Betty and Helen (and occasionally Rachel, the fourth sister) played in the group on the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin, who was convinced they were going to be big. His prediction didn't quite prove prophetic.
The band released one album, Philosophy Of The World, which must rank among the most polarizing LPs of all time. Some said it was the worst thing ever made. Frank Zappa famously was said to have dubbed it 'better than The Beatles'. Later, its cult appeal snowballed: it was referenced in Empire Records, Deerhoof have cited it as an influence and Kurt Cobain placed it as his fifth favorite of all time.
The group remained together until their father's death, performing frequently at the Fremont town hall and a local nursing home, and though no further albums were released, some songs were recorded. This special 7' single features the previously unheard “Sweet Maria” and “The Missouri Waltz” (state song of Missouri, no less).
It's the tip of the iceberg – a reissue of the full album Philosophy Of The World follows from Light In The Attic next year. To the uninitiated, the discordant vocals, slightly out-of-tune guitars, and slightly out-of- step drum-thumping might sound like a hot mess; and that's just Sweet Maria, before they've attempted 3/3 time on the haunting but tipsily performed waltz. But to fans, this is Christmas come early. The ultimate outsider band, they’re famous for making just one solitary album, one that's been loved, shared, and talked about far more than the 100 or so people who bought a first pressing could ever have predicted. Side A - Sweet Maria Side B - The Missouri Waltz (Missouri State Song).
MORE INFO Northern Spy Records is excited and honored to announce the release of 'In Hollywood, 1971,' a new record by Ravi Shankar presented across 2 LPs, for Record Store Day 2016. The four Ragas on this record are culled from a private, never-before-released house concert; beautifully recorded, they sound phenomenal after tape transfer, audio restoration, and re-mastering.
As Ravi’s wife, Sukanya Shankar, attests in her amazing liner notes, this concert most certainly sowed the seed for the overwhelmingly successful Concert for Bangladesh with George Harrison. Performing to a standing room only crowd on RSD 2015, recorded by KEXP, and mixed and mastered by the great Jack Endino, the band ferociously tore through the night joined by a stream of luminaries paying respects to the kings of the Northwest. “Live at Easy Street' is what that evening sounded like. 'Like a meteor shooting across the horizon, the Third Power lit up the Detroit music scene with a ferocious roar like no other group before them. But like all meteors, they only burned bright for a short while. Leaving one 45, one full length album and a lasting legacy.' - from the liner notes by Willy Wilson The Third Power were part of Vanguard Records’ shortlived but memorable sortie into the realm of Detroit’s “high energy” rock of the late 1960s.
Signed by staff producer Sam Charters to the label in 1969, the Third Power’s lone album for Vanguard today stands as one of the more memorable longplayers from the scene that begat the MC5, Stooges, Frost and others. Pokemon Schwarz Rom Deutsch Download Kostenlos Android 18. A power trio par excellence, the band first came together in 1965 but it was not until an extended sojourn “getting it together” at a farm on the outskirts of Detroit that their powerful blend coalesced.
Equal parts Cream, Hendrix and Detroit rama-lama, allied to a distinctive and melodic songwriting ability, the Third Power started to make noise at regional hotspots like the Grande Ballroom in 1968. An obscure one-off single for the Baron label preceded the recording of Believe in New York. Loaded with strong songcraft, imaginative arrangements and instrumental muscle, the record showcased the band at its best, but a poor commercial showing upon release in 1969 exacerbated intra-band tension and spelled the end for the Third Power by the turn of the decade. Frequently bootlegged in the past, this legitimate, definitive reissue of Believe not only sports superior mastering from the original master tapes, but also almost a dozen bonus tracks, featuring their 1968 non-LP single, seven studio outtakes and two storming on-location live recordings from the Grande Ballroom. Heavily illustrated liner notes tell the story of the Third Power with quotes from band members Jem Targal and Drew Abbott and producer Sam Charters. MORE INFO For Record Store Day, three unreleased African Head Charge cuts from their early days, discovered in the depths of the On-U tape archives. The A-side unveils a spacey, beautiful version of “Beri Beri” from 1982’s Environmental Studies. Stripping back the furious layers of percussion from the mix that appeared on the album, this version throws more light onto Deadly Headly Bennett’s gorgeous sax work and the irrestistable slow motion funk of the rhythm track. Disco as heard in one of the nightclubs from Blade Runner, or a lost balearic anthem from an alternate reality where JA sound systems invade 80s Ibiza.
On the flip, the completely unheard “Realigned Dub” is a masterclass in overlapping rhythms, with drum track and dub-filtered percussion dovetailing around a nonchalant bassline somehow holding the whole thing together. To close proceedings, a sequel to a track from 1981’s My Life In The Hole In The Ground subtracts some of the distinctive boing of the African kuwenge heard in Part 1, but adds melodica drops administered by Doctor Pablo, and some spooky tape-mangled voices from the ether. Cut from the original tapes by CGB at dubplates & mastering in Berlin, this is an essential piece of African Head Charge history which sounds as effective as an immersive headphone listen as it does blasting out of a wall of speakers. A) 1 - Beri Version - 06:17 B) 2 - Realigned Dub - 04:25, 3 - The Race Part II (3:50). To 500 copies and on transparent royal blue vinyl, and features extensive bonus tracks available via download. Originally self-released by Nick Saloman and limited to just 500 copies, the debut from The Bevis Frond marked the beginning of a highly influential career in underground British neo-psych-rock. Armed with a four-track portastudio, the success of 1986’s “Miasma” saw it unexpectedly sell-out quickly with a repress not far behind. Sounding as bracing today as it did then, it collects some of Saloman’s finest songs. Having played in bands since the late 60’s, and constantly writing, Saloman had founded The Von Trap Family and played in Room 13 among others.
In fact, he had almost called it a day, but it was the popularity of “Miasma” that saw him continue onward and establish himself as an underground legend. A labour of love and fiercely independent, his prolific output has seen as many releases in as many years, an uncompromising vision all under his own label Woronzow. Hailed as “a Hendrix devotee ever bit as tough and contemporary as the serrated guitar chorales of Sonic Youth and Pixies” by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, his immense psych-stoner-rock has seen him become a cult figure in his own right. The Bevis Frond’s legion of loyal fans includes Teenage Fanclub, Dinosaur Jr and Mary Lou Lord, who have all covered his music. Garden Gate 2. She's In Love With Time 3.

MORE INFO Who are the culprits responsible for these 5 songs? Line 'em up: we have Direct Hit! From Milwaukee and The Brokedowns from Chicagoland. Straight outta the Midwest, these bands are two of the most wild and irreverent groups in today's punk scene and they're out to bring a little slice of Midwest culture to the rest of the world. What culture, you ask? Well Francis, we're talking about blocks of cheese, suspicious encased meats, smartass social commentary, brutal weather, and accursed sports teams.
More than all that bullshit, these two partners in crime are all the evidence you need to prove that the Midwest has some of the best punk rock music around. The Brokedowns - Kings of the Dust 2. The Brokedowns - Crowns and Gowns 3. The Brokedowns - Runnin' the Front (TTK) Side B - 1.

Chicago’s Jamal Moss records as Hieroglyphic Being, as well as a dizzying number of other names including The Sun God, Insane Black Man, Interplanetary Prophets (with Ital) and Face Of Drums (with Steve Poindexter). His typically raw and distorted re-work of “hi-hats bring the hiss” blends elements of acid house, industrial, and Sun Ra-style synth arpeggios, conjuring up a sense of blown out speakers at a subterranean 4am rave. A US-born, London-based producer, Karen Gwyer has released records for Opal Tapes, No Pain In Pop and Nous.
Slowing down “void beat” to a glacial shuffle, subtle shifting textures drift somewhere in between stoned dub disco, fractured techno and the hypnotically repeating motifs of the best kosmische music. Clear vinyl packaged in a clear PVC sleeve. A) hi-hats bring the hiss (hieroglyphic being remix) - 09:01 B) void beat (karen gwyer remix) - 09:24.
MORE INFO Fellow denizens of Chicago, IL, Charles Rumback (drums, organ) and Ryley Walker (acoustic and electric guitar, piano, bells) laid down this record during two short sessions, a month apart, overseen by Brian J. Each player's schedule was too hectic ahead of these sessions to allow any time to discuss the direction of the record, so what you hear was wholly improvised on the spot. The results maybe recall the legendary jams of Sandy Bull and Billy Higgins, perhaps the soundtrack work of Ry Cooder, or Neil Young circa Dead Man. Whatever you hear there is an undeniably magical chemistry at play. This special Record Store Day 12' EP is pressed on electric blue vinyl. Cannots Side B: 3. River Limmat 4.
Middle Atlas. MORE INFO Cho-Cho and Dasheen is a collaboration between Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova), Morgan Nagler (Whispertown), Orenda Fink (Azure Ray), Todd Fink (The Faint), and local musicians the group encountered while traveling in Jamaica. “These songs were written along the prehistoric petrifed coral Caribbean seaside, at Poetreef, Cousin's Cove, Jamaica.
Under the infuence of I-tal Rastafarian vegetarian cooking, (featuring cho-cho and dasheen, amongst a variety of other root vegetables) roots music, and high on Mother Earth, we wrote of the hustlers in Negril, and the ocean's white caps (aka grey horse), galloping across a sea of raw energy, in a foreign land. We then found ourselves in Ocho Rios recording with some of the greats. By day, in the upstairs strip-mall studio, we watched 'Speckles' (the epic drummer), commanding impossible rhythms out of otherwise mundane tambourines, and Barry O'hare 'playing' the mix, live, dub-style, like a magical new instrument. By night, we slept under a historic tin roof, in the jungle rain forest with crystal clear river swimming holes, banana spiders, evidence of rats, and lessons in Dominoes, by a man called 'Doggie,' and a man called 'Manly.' Cool Pool Reggae is the result.' The Itches 2.
