I'm about to do my first CFW (once my E3 arrives), and I've been going through tutorials. There are numerous patchers available, and they don't seem to apply identical patches. Use the BwE Validator to patch, which seems to have two different patches depending on whether you're doing FSM to 3.55 or no-FSM. Use the PS3 4.78 Flash Tool for no-FSM upgrades that don't require a downgrade.

I'm definitely leaning toward a no-FSM patch. It seems like it's basically a more direct route of just patching, and then installing something like Rebug 4.78.2 REX without downgrading. There's not any dealing with the Qa flag unless I wanna go to a CFW that's older than my OFW, right?

It seems like the only real 'gotcha' is that if my OFW isn't 4.78, I'll have to upgrade from FSM, but I have no issue with that.
