1 $ 550.00 HENECOYL-3D1 Similar to above but 3.7 mW. 1 $ 500.00 HENEPMYL-1D PMS LHYR-0200M yellow (594.1 nm) HeNe laser 1 $ 450.00 head with compatible DC input power supply.
2.75 mW (rated 2 mW), like new. Note that the beam is slightly multimode (by design) with a divergence of about 2 mR. HENEPMYL-21D PMS LHYR-0020 yellow (594.1 nm) HeNe laser 1 $ 425.00 head with compatible DC input power supply. 1.4 mW (rated 0.2 mW), like new. HENEPMOL-41D PMS/REO LHOR-0150M laser head with DC-input 1 $ 750.00 power supply brick. This is supposed to be an orange (612 nm) laser, but actually produces a combination of yellow (594.1 nm) orange (604 and 612 nm) in the approximate ratio of 84:35:28 (Y:O:O). So more yellow than the others but a very pretty shade of orange.
4.4+ mW total power. Believed to be new/NOS made for Laser Chorus.
Note: this is multi-spatial mode by design so the beam is also nice and funky.;-) HENE????-?A HENE????-?D but with AC brick power supply 1 Add $ 50.00 pending availability. HENE????-?L HENE????-?D but with AC lab-style power supply 1 Add $ 150.00 pending availability.
HENELIP151l Melles Griot IR (1,523 nm) model 05-LIP-151 1 $ 1,000.00 cylindrical laser head and compatible lab power supply. Excellent condition. Rated 0.4 mW. (Will test further if there is serious interest but should exceed rated power.) ATLS5P339-1 Aerotech LS5P 3.39 um IR self-contained HeNe 1 $ 1,000.00 laser in excellent functional and cosmetic Pics: condition. 1.5+ mW at 3.39 um (3,390 nm). This is mid-IR and very unusual but does make a lousy laser pointer.;-) REO339-1 REO 3.39 um IR HeNe laser head with Melles. 1 $ 1,250.00 Griot lab power supply.
Rated 2.0 mW, actual output is greater than 4 mW after warmup. Appears new or lightly used. Laser head is ~21' in length by 1.75' diameter with metal mounting rings.
This is probably from/for a Zygo interferometer. Tunable HeNe Lasers: Sam Part # Description Qty.Avl.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HENESH500-1 Spindler and Hoyer 14 line tunable HeNe laser 2 $ 2500.00 in excellent condition. VIS mirror set. 635, 633, 629, and 612 nm tunable via bire- fringent filter. 0.5/2.5/0.75/0.2 mW. (The other lines require IR mirrors, which may also be available but not included.) However, there is no yellow or green using the S&H mirrors, and it's not known if one can get yellow or green even with other mirrors. These are in like new condition except for some scuffs on the Plexiglas cover.
A security plate may be present as well depending on specific sample. The origina S&H brochure may be found. The ML-500 is built like a tank with a 4 bar Invar (probably) resonator and precision adjustable mirror mounts.
This is much better construction than the PMS/REO lasers. The laser could also serve as a platform for experiments with its two-brewster plasma tube, good for 5 mW or more at 633 nm. (The Siemens tube alone is around $1,500 if bought new.) The mirrors are easily swappable without significant realiagnment.
Adapters from its 12 mm mirrors to 7.75 mm standard HeNe mirrors may be available. HENEREO1 REO Tunable HeNe laser LSTP-1010 in mint 1 $ 3500.00 condition, used lightly by original owner purchased in 2006. Nearly 6 mW 633 nm (red) and nearly 0.6 mW 544 nm (green). All lines well above spec even just after power-on. The 544 is almost double spec power (0.3 mW). HENEREO2 REO Tunable HeNe laser LSTP-1010 rebuilt 1 $ 2500.00 in very good condition. Nearly 5 mW 633 nm (red) and 0.35 mW 544 nm (green) but does require warmup to achieve these values.
HENEREO3 REO Tunable HeNe laser LSTP-0010 ONLY DOES 1 $ 1000.00 red (633 nm), orange (612 nm), and low levels (~100 uW or less) of orange (605 nm) and yellow (594 nm). Exactly why this laser does not perform to spec is not known. It may be that the internal OC is not coated correctly or the tube has the wrong gas-fill or pressure. However, it is totally stable and does not change while runnning or sitting on the shelf which would be a symptom of contamination. Almost 5 mW red, 1 mW of orange. This might do better with a new tuning prism but that would probably not be a cure. So call it a two-color tunable laser.:) For the commercial stabilized lasers and conponents, all serious offers will be considered, but I won't be selling them for 10 percent of what I'm asking.:) If you don't see the laser you'r looking for, I may be able to suggest an altnernative or build or modify one custom.
Kits for home-built stabilized HeNe lasers may be found under. Sam Part # Description Qty.Avl. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STP-910-AG1 Melles Griot Fiber-coupled 05-STP-910-536 1 $ 3,500.00 with NEW TUBE. 1 $ 3,500.00 This is a dual mode polarization stabilized HeNe with the laser head inside a thermally- regulated enclosure for greater immunity to ambient temperature changes. It is perhaps the best modern stabilized HeNe laser short of an ultra-expensive iodine stabilized laser. This one appears in like-new condition easily meeting manufacturer's specs.
Its only quirk is that it may be very slow to start cold. Red side, blue side, and intensity locking with user adjustments to optimize perfornance for lab conditions. Output power greater than 1 mW linearly polarized. A Web search will easily find the manual. REO-32734 REO 32734 frequency or intensity stabilized 1 $ 2,500.00 HeNe laser.
1.3 mW F/, 1.3 mW I. From 2011, this is a current model. The head is a bit scruffy cosmetically from previous mounting but everything works well. Mating fiber coupler (FC/APC) available for $250 additional.

The LFS-210 provides adjustable optical frequency via a 10-turn knob on the laser head which can move the lock point by several hundred MHz either way.
This is possibly the best mode stabilized HeNe laser ever made. Discount with trade of similar laser. SGSTP938-1 Frequency or intensity stabilized HeNe laser - $ 6,500.00 using modified Melles Griot locking adapter and new/NOS laser tube. 1.4 mW minimum output power in a single mode when locked. Includes laser head with locking adapter, Lab-style 115 VAC HeNe laser power supply, and DC power pack for locking adapter. Lock time less than 8 minutes. Other options may be available.
Inquire for details. SGSTP938-2 Similar to above but intensity stabilized Only. Conduire Un Vehicule De Promenade Pdf. - $ 5,500.00 SP117-10 Spectra-Physics 117 stabilized HeNe laser. 1 $ 1,500.00 SP-117 laser head with SP-117A controller so only Frequency stabilized mode is guaranteed since there is some drift in output power in Intensity mode until full warmup (~1 hour). That's why the price is so much lower than for an SP-117A.
SP117A-NT1 Spectra-Physics 117A stabilized HeNe laser - $ 3,000.00 with NEW TUBE. Excellent condition, 1.5-1.8 mW SLM Frequency or Intensity stabilized. 1 year warranty on tube, 90 days everything else. Built to order, ship 1 week ARO. STP901-1 Melles Griot 05-STP-901 stabilized HeNe laser 2 $ 2,500.00 in like-new functional condition and good to excellent cosmetic condition. 1.6-1.7 mW locked in F and I modes. SP117B-1 Spectra-Physics 117B OEM stabilized HeNe laser, 1 $ 1,750.00 about 3 mW total, 1.5 mW each mode.
The 117B has performance similar to that of a 117A but is in a small rectangular case requiring only +/-15 VDC power. The output is both modes polarized at +/-45 degrees. I can add a 3 mm beam expander and/or other optics to match your requirements, or swap from your (dead) laser if desired. SP117C-S1 Spectra-Physics 117C OEM stabilized HeNe laser 1 $ 3,000.00 installed in custom enclosure with separate power supply.
Excellent condition with around 3.25 mW total power when locked). A polarizing beam-splitter will be included to isolate a single mode if desired, but must be mounted separately.
SP117C-3 Spectra-Physics 117C OEM stabilized HeNe laser 1 $ 2,750.00 rebuilt with new original tube. 1 year warranty on tube, 90 days everything else.
SP117A-RB1 Install new tube in your SP-117/A/B/C or MG - $ 2,500.00 05-STP-901. This should restore the laser to new specifications. 1 year warranty on replacement tube. Additional charges may apply if other problems are found. Inquire for details. SP117A-CS Spare SP-117A controller adjusted for your - $ 500.00 laser head when purchased at the same time as a SP-117A or Melles Griot 05-STP-901 system or laser head rebuild.
Never leave home without an emergency spare for those critical applications!:) SL-Iso-1 Faraday isolator for any of these 633 nm 1 $ 500.00 stabilized HeNe lasers. $425 if purchased with laser. Note: This would need to be mounted separately. SP117A-PBS Polarizing Beam Splitter (PBS) for SP-117A 2 $ 100.00 MG 05-STP-901 laser.
This is the standard rhombus-shaped (almost cube) beam splitter assembly that screws to the SP-117A laser head inside the output end to select one of the polairzed modes. HENESTAB-IR1 This would be a custom-built stabilized single - $ 10,000 frequency HeNe laser operating at 1,523 nm. The minimum output power would be between 0.25 0.5 mW SLM with stability specifications similar to those of commercial red stabilized HeNe lasers like the Spectra-Physics 117A or Melles Griot 05-STP-901.
Inquire for more details. These are mostly from HP/Agilent and Zygo. Lasers that meet manufacturer specifications come with a minimum of a 90 day (3 month) warranty as noted. This warranty can usually be extended to 180 days (6 months) for an additional 10 percent of the laser's purchase price. All others have at least a 10 day DOA warranty. Feel free to make reasonable offers. Trades (in addition to those listed below) of lasers, electronics, or optics, may be considered to reduce the price.
I will also test, adjust, and repair these lasers and am set up to do quantity testing for eBay (or other) sellers with flat fee, consignment, or other arrangments including service warranties. Contact me for details. Discounts available. In addition to their intended metrology applications, these lasers can be ideal as laboratory stabilized HeNe lasers and optical frequency/wavelength reference lasers. Unless otherwise noted, all of these lasers and laser tubes meet HP/Agilent specifications and are in excellent functional condition and very good to excellent cosmetic condition. Several are like new an would be entirely suitable for use in a production environment. However, unless otherwise noted, some have seen significant use and would only be recommended for applications where the laser is turned on only when required or for testing, demonstration, education, and research.
Most of these have at least a 90 day warranty, and I certainly don't expect them to drop dead at 91 days!:) But their useful life could be measured in many years if only turned on when needed. For most applications, there is no real benefit to leaving lasers like this on continuously if not being used even if the rest of the tool remains powered.
Contact me for more specific suggestions on maximizing the life of HP/Agilent metrology lasers. Some of these lasers may also be available for rental on a monthly basis with option to buy. Notes: • A trade-in allowance is available for most 5517/5518/5519 lasers (even if the model being traded isn't the same as the one you will be buying). The amount depends on model, year, and condition. The most is generally paid for *Agilent* 5517B/BL/C/CL/D/DL lasers (2004 or later), or any 5517E/EL/F/FL/G/GL. Agilent lasers with manufacturing dates later than 2010 may also have a higher trade-in value. • There may be other HP/Agilent lasers available.
And in particular, some of the 5517Cs may be adjusted to meet 5517B specs upon request (REF of 1.9-2.4 MHz) with similar or slightly higher output power, or modifying 5517Bs to meet 5501B F1/F2 and REF specs. See the section: for options. • Unless otherwise noted, all HP/Agilent lasers have 6 mm beam optics. 3 mm or 9 mm optics may be available. • For hobbyists and experiments salivating over the opportunity to play with these sorts of systems, it may be possible to put together relatively low cost systems that would be fully functional but not meet commercial requirements. • Since HP/Agilent and Zygo interferometer optics are often the same, see the Zygo Metrology Lasers and Accessories section for optics as well if you are interested in optics.
• The Excel 1001A, 1001B, and 1001F are functional clones of the HP/Agilent 5501B, 5517A, and 5517B, respectively (more or less). However, since the REF freuqency of Excel lasers isn't specified more narrowly than 1.5 to 3.0 MHz, it's not really possible to be certain that any given 1001 laser will be suitable as an HP/Agilent replacement. See the section: for possibilities.
For a given output power, Excel lasers may be slightly less expensive. • Rather than trying to select among the various lasers listed below, it may be better to contact me with your requirements.:-) • I can also build or modify to order almost any 5517 laser for which a suitable tube is available, either one listed below or provided by the customer. This can include specific REF frequency, beam diameter, and case style. Even Agilent would not be able to tell that it is not original from the outside!

HP-5500C May be available using a tube from a 5501A 1 (below) though upgrade to something after these dinosaurs became extinct is highly recommended.:) While I may be able to obtain working 5501As and 5501Bs (and rebuild 5501Bs at ridiculous prices), migrating to a 5517B laser is the best long term solution.
There are a couple of approaches which are relatively painless and inexpensive. Inquire for details, or for availability of 5501A/Bs. This is the standard mount in some sort of machine but I don't know which and you probably don't care anyhow! KS-5517C-1 HP/Agilent/Keysight 5517C-003 (2016, 3 mm), 1 $4,500.00 >500 uW, ~2.75 MHz. Believed to be New/NOS with test exceedling label values. 1.5 year warranty. The beam size can be changed to 6 or 9 mm if desired.
HP-5517C-2 HP 5517C, about 240-250 uW, 2.7 MHz. May be 1 $ 550.00 very slow start, but runs fine. 'Very slow start' might be 10 minutes or more, but sometimes comes on instantly.:):) 3 month warranty.
This would be suitable for emergencies where 'anything with a beam (eventually)' is acceptable.:) (OK, perhaps not really acute emergencies!) But if you're going to turn on the tool and let it run 24/7, this would be fine. FWIW, a similar laser lasted 3 years in on/off service, probably equivalent to around 6 months 24/7.
HP-5517C-120 HP 5517C WEAK but functional. 165 uW, 1 $ 275.00 2.87 MHz. This is way down from its 414 uW label value, but would be a great low cost experimenters' laser. Or satisfies the requirement 'anything with a beam and REF'.:) AG-5517D-116 Agilent 5517D N06 (2013, 6 mm) new or nearly 1 $ 4,500.00 so. 410 uW, 3.75 MHz, which are similar to label values.

HP-5517D-964 HP 5517D C07, 195 uW, 4.35 MHz. The power isn't 1 $ 1,750.00 that high but is close to the label value of 214 uW. And the REF of 4.35 MHz is consistent with the specs for the 5517D C07 of '>4 MHz'. 6 month warranty. AG-5517D-875 Agilent 5517D C07, 220 uW, 4.40 MHz, 9 mm, 1 $ 1,7 tube. Original power/REF unknown but appears to be quite healthy.

The 1 $ 2,650.00 original test values for this laser are not known, but spec'd power for the 5517E/EL is 65 uW so this is way above spec. Which also means I won't accept $10 for it.;-) 3 month warranty. Can be configured as either 5517E or 5517EL at no charge. AG5517FL-1 Agilent 5517FL-06, 105 uW at READY, 120+ uW, 1 $ 2,750.00 after full warmup, ~7.3 MHz. This power is way above spec for the -06 (65 uW).
Fast start, 2008 tube. 3 month warranty. Can also convert to a 5517FL-300 (9 mm, >112 uW) as well as a 5517E or -EL, or 5517D-C30 (>100 uW). AG5517GL-1 Agilent 5517G or GL may be available. Inquire with your requirements/options. HP5517-xxx The following are HP or Agilent 5517 lasers that have had all the stops pulled out so-to-speak, having been modified so that they meet 5517 specs despite being high mileage lasers. These do NOT result in a fountain of youth but do allow an otherwise useless laser to provide additional service.
But these lasers would make great low cost emergency spares for almost any tool using a similar 5517. They would also serve as research, experimenter, or hobbyist interferometer lasers. 6 mm beam diameter unless noted, can convert to 3 or 9 mm at modest cost. These lasers will probably run for several months in 24/7 service, or or much longer if only turned on when needed. There is no loss of life when not powered.
Three month warranty. 10 percent discount with trade of similar laser. 1 month warranty.

HENELSK-P1 HeNe Laser Kit P1. 0.8 to 1.5 mW NEC GLT-165 2 $50.00 or Toshiba LG-3217 polarized HeNe laser tube,, HENEHVB HV PCB, and an AC line (115 VAC) power transformer that produces 700 VAC.
Note that this kit requires an external source of 12 to 15 VDC (at low current) to run the laser which can then be turned on and off with a TTL signal. Makes a nice 'everything visible' demo HeNe laser. Hookup instructions will be included. With the addition of a diode and capacitor, the power transformer in the 'A' versions can provide the 12 to 15 VDC, and can be used for other low voltage circuitry. HENELSK-P2 HeNe Laser Kit P2.
Similar to HENELSK-P1 but 2 $50.00 uses potted HV multiplier instead of flyback for starting. Stabilized one or two mode and axial Zeeman HeNe laser kits: Sam Part # Description Qty.Avl. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HENESTAB1 Stabilized HeNe laser kit 1. Set of parts to - $ 175.00 construct a 1 or 2 mode frequency stabilized HeNe laser. This includes a well behaved 6 inch 0.8 to 1.2 mW HeNe laser tube, thin- film Kapton heater with a cold resistance of around 16 ohms, 5 VDC input HeNe laser power supply brick with ballast resistor, 5 VDC wall adapter, small PBS cube, and a pair of photodiodes. The control electronics are NOT included. A guide to the construction of a stabilized HeNe laser from these parts will be provided.
General info on home-built stabilized HeNe lasers including complete schematics may be found in the Laser FAQ chapter:. Only basic mechanical and electronic skills are required to complete the laser. A rudimentary stabilized HeNe laser can be completed with fewer than a half dozen additional parts. HENESTAB1A HENESTAB1 with parts to build Arduino controller - $ 250.00 See µSLC1-1, below. HENESTAB2 Stabilized HeNe laser kit 2. Set of parts to - $ 375.00 construct a 1 or 2 mode frequency stabilized (Pics coming) HeNe laser with higher power than the basic kit 1. This includes a well behaved 9-10 inch 3 to 4 mW HeNe laser tube, thin- film Kapton heater, HeNe laser power supply brick and DC power supply.
HENESTAB2A HENESTAB2 with parts to build Arduino controller - $ 450.00 See µSLC1-1, below. ZEEMAN-A1 Axial Zeeman HeNe laser kit A1. Parts to 2 $ 250.00 build a stabilized two-frequency axial Zeemen HeNe laser. The kit includes a 6' HeNe laser tube tested to be suitable for axial Zeeman behavior, thin-film Kapton heater, compatible 5 VDC input HeNe laser power supply with ballast resistor, 5 VDC wall adapter, the magnet assembly from an HP-5501A laser (including waveplates and beam expander), small PBS cube, photodiodes, and more. The electronics are NOT included but similar techniques to those used for normal 1 or 2 mode stabilized HeNe lasers may be employed except that it may be simpler to use a portion of the main beam for feedback. Inquire for details. Note that HENESTAB1 is a subset of ZEEMAN-A1.
However, a tube that's good for 1 or 2 mode stabilization may not be good for axial Zeeman and vice-versa. A guide to the construction of a stabilized Zeeman HeNe laser from these parts will be provided. ZEEMAN-A1A ZEEMANA1 with parts to build Arduino controller - $ 325.00 See µSLC1-1, below. HENE24VDC Substitutes 21-31 VDC HeNe laser power supply - Add $ 10.00 brick with 24 VDC wall adapter for 5 VDC unit on any of the above kits. HENEHPZKT-1 HP/Agilent two frequency Zeeman HeNe laser kit - $ 275.00 These parts can be used to construct a stabilized two-frequency HeNe Zeeman laser, Although it will not meet HP/Agilent specs due to low power or inability to stay lit at the default current, the result would be similar to the beam from a $10,000 5517 laser used to control stage position in applications like lithography wafer steppers. (But this is NOT a cheap way of acquiring a tube to repair your semiconductor Fab!) A beam sampler can be used to divert a portion of the beam for use for normal 2 mode stabilization. A feedback circuit then adjusts cavity length.
When the amplitude of the X and Y components are equal, the output will have the Zeeman beat. The tube has an internal heater to control cavity length with a cold resistance of around 8 ohms.
A guide to the construction of a stabilized Zeeman HeNe laser from these parts will be provided. HENEHPZKT-1A HP/Agilent two frequency Zeeman HeNe laser kit - $ 350.00 above with parts to build Arduino controller. ΜSLC1-1 Micro Stabililized Laser Controller 1 is an - $ 75.00 Arduino-based system for single and dual- mode stabilized HeNe lasers including Zeeman lasers such as those from HP/Agilent.
These are the parts to construct a low cost controller that will (with minor changes) work with virtually any suitable laser tube or head. Includes firmware and optional Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI) for monitoring the laser or adjusting locking parameters.
The price is for non-commercial use please. Inquire for commercial license. It won't be that bad, really.:) See:. HENESTAB3 Stabilized HeNe laser kit 3. Set of parts - $ 750.00 to construct a 3 mode frequency stabilized (Pics coming) HeNe laser with higher power than almost anything commercially available. It should be capable of at least 3 mW in a single mode. This includes a well behaved 13-14 inch 6 to 8 mW HeNe laser tube, thin- film Kapton heater, HeNe laser power supply brick and DC power supply.
It also includes parts to build a compact dual polarization Scanning Fabry-Perot Interferometer to allow an Arduino-based controller (parts included) to analyze the modes in real-time for feedback to lock the tube with a mode centered on the neon gain curve. This would make a most challenging project.:) Note: The Arduino controller is similar to µSLC1-1, above, but the software and firmware for the three mode stabilization have NOT been completed. Whatever I have will be provided, but it isn't much.:(:) These are sets of parts including mirrors to construct Scanning Fabry-Perot Interferometers (SFPIs) to display the longitudinal modes various lasers. Most are optimal for red (633 nm) HeNe lasers but should will work over a range of wavelengths from below 595 nm to above 650 nm.
An SFPI with performance comparable to that of a commercial instrument can be constructed for a small fraction of the cost of even a used one. There's also the satisfaction of being able to build a device with a resolution of a few fm (femtometers). The most inexpensive kits consist of mirrors, a PZT, and photodiode, and require total fabrication of the mechanical assembly (or its construction using other available components). More complete kits include Thorlabls mechanical 'cage' parts that provide the basic structure with varying amounts of flexibility in cavity length and alignment. These can be used to implement confocal, hemispherical confocal, selectable FSR, and planar SFPIs (though the latter is probably not recommended except for the particularly masochistically inclined). Some basic mechanical, electrical, and optical skills - and time and effort - will be required either way. If you are interested in some peculiar configuration that isn't here (or isn't obvious), ask.
Where what you are really interested in is a commercial instrument, go to. Sam Part # Description Qty.Avl. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HENESFPI1 Scanning Fabry-Perot Interferometer Kit 1 - $ 65.00 This kit consists of a pair of mirrors, with an RoC of 43 mm, 7-8 mm diameter) to construct a confocal cavity with an FSR of 1.75 GHz, an Si PD, and a piezo element with a hole drilled through its center. Some mechanical skills and assorted readily available materials will be required to construct the SFPI, which will enable the longitudinal modes of most TEM00 red HeNe lasers to be displayed in real time. A function generator may be used as a driver, or one can easily be built. An oscilloscope (almost any type) or data acquisition system (not included) will be required for the display.
See the sections of Sam's Laser FAQ starting with. For more details. Mirrors are also available individually. See HENEMIR-S1 under.
The photo of the scan is actually using the HENESFPI2 below, but your results with this kit should be similar as the mirrors, PZT, and photodiode are the same. In my tests, the finesse at 633 nm can exceed 350 which may actually surpass the performance of a $5,000 instrument. At 633 nm, the reflectance is >99.5%. The finesse falls to around 250 at 594 nm (yellow HeNe), which is still quite exceptional. At 532 nm it is poor, but still might be adequate to determine if a green laser is single longitudinal mode (single frequency) and suitable for holography.
At 655 nm, they appear to be even higher-R, possibly 99.9% or more, though higher finesse may be limited by other factors. And still around 99% at 680 nm for a finesse around 150. The performance above 680 nm is not known at this time, but the finesse should still be decent to 700 nm or more. (However, I cannot guarantee that all mirrors will achieve these high finesses.
They should be close though.) HENESPFI2 Deluxe SFPI kit. Everything in HENESFPI1 - $ 225.00 plus Thorlabs mechanical cage parts to mount the mirrors, PZT, and photodiode, as well as a few other bits and pieces to complete the SFPI. Some assembly and creativity will still be required but this eliminates the need for much of the midnight scavanging.:) The photos show the completed head assembly on a 3-screw adjustable platform (not included) and a screen shot of a typical scan for a Melles Griot 05-LHR-151 HeNe laser made with it. SFPI Kit Options: -Rr Similar to above but select from mirrors - Ask with RoC=r in. The FSR will be c/(4*RoC) or approximately 7.5*10 9/RoC where r is in cm Note that the reflectivity of the other RoC mirrors is typically 99-98.5%@633 nm so the finesse is not as high (100-150).
The cost will be $5-$10 per additional inch of cavity length for longer Thorlabs cage rods if applied to the HENESFPI2. Otherwise, it will be almost ununchanged for most mirrors.
-A Adds a 3-screw adjustable mount for one of - Add $ 75.00 the mirrors of a Thorlabs cage setup (shown). This makes initial setup easier but is not essential (except for a plane- plane cavity). -HC A planar mirror is substituted for one of the - Add $ 0.00 curved mirrors.
This will then result in a hemispherical confocal (HC) cavity. Your choice of a 98.5% OC or 99.9+% HR (for higher finesse - recommended, but more difficult to use since the signal level will be lower). The benefit of the HC cavity is that it can be more compact, 1/2 the cavity length and 1/2 the drive voltage requirement of the standard confocal SFPI. A smaller cavity length may be particularly attractive if using larger RoC mirrors to achieve higher resolution. However, finesse is reduced compared to the normal confocal cavity. Note: Since the planar mirror is not identical to the curved mirror, the finesse at wavelengths other 633 nm are not known.
-SS Selectable Spehrical FSR. This extends the - Ask maximum cavity length to be double that of standard confocal cavity. The added cost is for longer cage rods. -SH Selectable Hemisherical FSR. This is a piezo beeper element - $ 10.00 modified with a 5-6 mm center hole so that it can be used for micropositioning of 7 mm or larger diameter optics such as the mirrors used in the SFPI kits, above. Other applications include wavelength tunable filters, etalons, FM modulated or frequency chirped lasers, etc.
These are what are known as 'drum head' PZTs so the sensitivity is very high - 10 or 20 volts/micron of linear movement. Overall diameter is approximatley 27 mm; the active region is around 20 mm. If you are handy with a drill press and needle files, then you can buy 102-1127-ND from Digikey (under $2) and modify it yourself. SFPIRDRV-P1 Blank PCB for 60 V ramp driver that may be - $ 20.00 used with any SFPI using a high sensitivity PZT like the one in the HENESPFI kits. There are HeNe laser tubes which require an external mirror or mirrors to complete the laser cavity with the result often called an 'open cavity laser' to distinguish it from the common internal mirror HeNe laser tube where everything is sealed inside and inaccessible. Aside from replacements for various rather specialized equipment like particle counters and Raman gas analyzers, they are most often used in educational laser lab courses to demonstrate various aspects of laser construction, operation, resonator stability, spacial and longitudinal modes, and more. These also represent true 'laser jock' lasers for the serious hobbyist or experimenter.;-) In addition to the individual components listed below, more complete setups may be available along with sets of mirrors most useful for these sorts of experiments. A basic setup consits of a one or two Brewster window or perpendicular window 'plasma' tube, and one or two mirrors on adjustable mounts. Various other components like apertures, waveplates, and birefringent filters can be inserted inside the laser cavity. These would all be mounted on a baseplate, optical table/breadboard, or optical rail. While HeNe plasma tubes having windows at both ends are most general, their availability is quite limited.
The only source I know of for two-Brewster tubes currently is LASOS and their price is somewhere in the $1,500 range. There are a few companies that provide educational kits that include tubes (probably from LASOS) and other optical components. These are very well done but also extremely expensive. I've heard something like $20,000 but have not confirmed this price. Even if not listed, I can generally order various Thorlabs components like mirror mounts, posts, post holders, and other hardware and will only charge a modest markup. (I get to keep the yummy lab snacks though!) Most of the tubes below have one Brewster window and an internal OC or HR mirror. While not quite as general as a two window tube, this does simplify alignment and reduces the number of surfaces that need to be kept spotless.
Compatible power supplies are generally available (though not listed specifically), as well as a variety of OC and HR mirrors with RoCs from 25 cm to 5 m. One Brewster or one window: The following are various laser tubes, heads, or more complex assemblies where the tube has an internal mirror at one end and a Brewster angle window or AR-coated perpendiculaor window at the other end. Most of these have a wide bore and are easy to align, but will generally be multi-spatial mode using a medium radius mirror without an aperture inside the cavity, or the use of some other means of mode control. The design wavelength in all cases is 633 nm (normal HeNe red) unless otherwise noted, but some are capable of at least a bit of orange (612 nm and maybe 605 nm) or yellow (594.1 nm) as noted.
If not noted, other wavelengths may still be possible but this has not been confirmed. 1-B and 1-W tubes/heads are great for general experimentation using an external cavity laser without the hassle of critical alignment and optics cleaning at both ends.
In general, heads are more robust but don't have the way-cool appearance of bare tubes.:-) See the section: for inexpensive mirrors that will work great with these laser heads. For a kit with most of the parts required to build a one-Brewster laser, see the section:. Detailed instructions for setting up one-Brewster heads and tubes can be found in and, respectively. Most of these are hard-seal (frit or optically contacted) meaning they do not need to be run periodically to maintain health. Those that are soft-sealed are noted as such.
They work just as well but should be run periodically to keep them that way. All 1-B or 1-W tubes include parts to construct an Alden cable with ballast and clips suitable for the specific tube.
All 1-B or 1-W tubes and heads include a new/NOS 7.75 mm diameter OC with an RoC suitable for the specific tube, as well as a planar HR mirror. (The HR for the High-Q tubes and heads has an RoC of 60 cm and is the matching super-polished ultra-high R mirror.) If ordered with an enclosure, the complete rig will come fully assembled. Note that for Melles Griot, there are two general styles of tubes: • Melles Griot Style: Frit-sealed internal mirror and frit-sealed Brewster window.
Examples: LHB-375, LHB-570 LHB-670. • Hughes Style: Frit-sealed internal mirror and optically contacted Brewster window. Examples: LHB-564, LHB-568, LGB-563. The optically contacting of the latter reduces stresses in the Brewster window allowing for potentially much higher intra-cavity power to build up ('High-Q') when used with a matching super-polished external HR mirror.
In principle, this can reach 10s of WATTS. For general educational use with an OC mirror, the difference is not significant and the maximum output power is similar. The only downside to the optically contacted Brewster window is that it is a bit less robust against abuse. Sam Part # Description Qty.Avl. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HENEMGR568h1 Melles Griot 05-LHB-568 ultra-high Q 1-B 0 $ 650.00 HeNe laser head. Optically contacted B-window, requires 1,500 V, 6.5 mA.
The Melles Griot specs claim 30 WATTS intracavity power with an optimal external HR mirror. I can't really test that but do get 6 mW out with a 45 cm 98.5% OC, which is excellent for a tube of this length. Optically contacted/hard-sealed. Internal HR has a RoC of 60 cm.
Includes one (1) 60 cm superpolished HR mirror which Melles Griot specifies for use with this tube. HENEMGR568h3 Similar to above but no flange, about 6 mW 1 $ 550.00 with 45 cm RoC 98.5% OC. Test unit, but like new condition. HENEMGR568t1 Tube used in 05-LHB-568 laser head, 6-7+ mW - $ 600.00 with 98.5% OC mirror. New/NOS, Hughes- style, about 10.5 inches long. (These are all labeled 30 W or more referring to peak intra-cavity power with super high quality external HR, included.) HENEMGR568t2 Similar to above but chunk missing from B-window 1 $ 500.00 doesn't affect seal or operation.
Lifetime warranty (yours or the tube's) against failure due to B-window seal. The chunk is included.;-) HENEMGR568t3 Similar to above but small speck of something 1 $ 450.00 inside B-window, really doesn't affect operation. HENEMGR563h1 Melles Griot 05-LHB-563 1-B laser head. This 1 $ 550.00 has a tube with an internal OC.
It will produce 1.5-2.5 mW out the front, 0.5 to 1.5 mW out the back with an external OC; 5+ mW out the back with an external 45 cm RoC HR. The internal OC has a RoC of 60 cm. HENEMGR562h1 Similar to HENEMGR562, above, but there 1 $ 450.00 is a bit of debris inside the B-window so the maximum power out the back with an HR is a bit lower - 3-4 mW.
Still quite respectable. HENEMGG563h1 Melles Griot 05-LGB563 1-B *GREEN* HeNe 1 $ 625.00 laser head. Physically similar to 05-LHB-568 1-B red laser head, above, but the internal mirror is a 543.5 nm green OC.
